Every Wednesday here at The Big Ten Blog, we will update you on the latest commits, decommits and rumors in the recruiting world.
Ohio State picked up a verbal from Marcus Baugh, a highly-touted tight end who's going to bedevil Big Ten defenses with his match of size (6'4", 210 and rising) and athleticism. I don't want to overload praise on the young man, but he's got some Gronkowski to his game. Yep, we went there. Let's watch him wreck fools, shall we?
Michigan went down to Ohio again and landed a commitment from the state's top linebacker, Ben Gedeon (click through for OMG GEDEON SLEEVELESS pic). That makes eight Michigan commits from the state of Ohio. Hmm? Oh, just a coincidence, I'm sure.
Penn State is getting richer, securing a verbal from monster DT Greg Webb. Michigan and OSU have the two biggest recruiting hauls for the conference so far, but Penn State might be tops in terms of quality. They're getting quality all over the place.
Iowa's 2013 recruiting class is actually a thing now, as the Hawkeyes picked up commitments from WR Derrick Willies and DE David Kenney. Kenney's a pretty big deal, rating four stars on Rivals (three stars elsewhere) with some other Big Ten offers.
Meanwhile, Willies had a pretty light list of offers, but that's often the case this early in the recruiting season.
None from Big Ten schools, but with the Bobby Petrino situation going full nuclear down in Fayetteville, don't be surprised if some Big Ten schools test the waters on some Arkansas commits. Couldn't hurt, right?
News and Rumors
Michigan has jumped into the lead for big-time DE Joe Mathis, who had been thought of as a USC lean. Mathis says he's close to committing, but we've got a long way to go until Signing Day 2013. Michigan is also bringing quite a few recruits to town for the spring game.
Alex Anzalone might be the next great linebacker to come through Penn State; he's one of three recruits visiting Penn State this weekend. Anzalone's current offer list is basically "everyone in the world."
