It must have been a painful game to witness.
You might have thought that you were in Brick City instead of Newark. Shots were being missed right and left. Bryant only connected on 34 percent of their field goals and N.J.I.T shot 21-of-58 from the floor. The Bulldogs came into the Fleisher Center with a 3-15 record and winless on the road. The Highlanders were winless, flat-out.
However, N.J.I.T only cared about the end result—the result that screamed Bryant 51, N.J.I.T 61.
After losing 51 straight games, the Highlanders are finally victorious. Until tonight, there was not a single player on the N.J.I.T roster who played in a Highlander victory. Now, they are all winners.
It's only one win and the Highlanders, under new head coach Jim Engles, still have 12 games remaining in 2009. But, maybe this game will serve as a confidence-booster for this young N.J.I.T squad.
The humility of losing 51 straight games is finally over and now Engles can focus on putting together a little winning streak—alright, that might be a stretch, but think optimistically.
