This is just a quick, fun list of some of my favorite athlete names in my lifetime. It is subjective and by no means intends to be comprehensive.

The sports world is full of funny-sounding and even suave names. I hope to capture a few of the better ones, and I will include some more well-known athletes that have interesting names.

Please do respond with some of your favorite athlete names, as I am sure I missed lots of good ones.

Duany Duany

The cover boy. Played basketball at Wisconsin, and is brother to Kueth Duany, who played for Syracuse's championship team alongside Carmelo. The repeated name...unbeatable for me.

Razak Pimpong

This Ghanaian footballer is most notable for being on the 2006 Ghana World Cup squad. He played against the U.S. in the 2-1 win, thus entering my consciousness.

Dean Windass

An English footballer with a funny last name (and apparently funny facial expressions, too) who recently went on loan from Hull City to Oldham.

Rudy Gay

Only because every time I hear his name, I am reminded of Rick Majerus' immortal remark, "I'm not a big Gay guy."

Tiger Woods

Display_image

We hear his name so much that we forget it is patently absurd that "Eldrick" officially changed his name to "Tiger." What, can I be "Jaguar" then? Were he named Eldrick, would he have the same reputation?

Boof Bonser

How did he get that name? It's just a bit embarrassing.

Jae Kuk Ryu

Ex-Cubs (where now?) prospect's name pronounced, more or less, "Jae cook you," an intimidating name to be sure. And he is vicious, just ask the Florida osprey population, who lost a member when he intentionally threw a baseball at one during a minor league game.

LeBron James

He epitomizes what I will call the "creativity" many African-Americans have in naming their children. And I do not mean that in an offensive way, it just is.

Quentin Jammer

It's a good name for a defensive football player, and he is one, a corner back for the San Diego Chargers. Chargers fans wish he had "jammed" more receivers.

Vida Blue

Sounds more like bottled water than it does a six-time all-star starting pitcher.
