Today, in front of a crowd of an estimated 15,000 people in the Austin suburb of Georgetown, Tex., Tim Tebow gave a sermon and talked about the importance of faith in your life. He did not once quote from the New York Jets playbook.

Tebow did what he has done hundreds of times before: He talked about his faith and he delivered a sermon. In short, although the crowds are bigger, Tebow is simply continuing the family business. He is the son of Bob and Pam Tebow, who have spent the last 30 years traveling the world developing an impressive evangelic foundation.

As someone who has covered the career of Tebow from the time he came to the University of Florida, where he led them to a BCS National Championship and picked up a Heisman Trophy, then on to the Denver Broncos, where last fall, Tebow-mania began to build, and now on to Broadway where he is the quarterback—excuse me, the back-up quarterback—of the New York Jets, he has never really changed as a person.

He has been a devout Christian who has worked very closely with his father’s Evangelistic Association. The family business for the Tebows is comfortable working with orphans in the Philippines and building raising money to build hospitals and schools.

That, believe it or not, is Tebow’s family business, and his star power won’t change who he is. So while it is fun to poke fun at Tebow and to speculate on what his next sermon might be about, the most interesting thing that will happen is how Tebow uses his new-found power to accomplish the many, many goals he has.

He stepped outside his father’s organization a bit and has established own foundation called Team Tebow. He is already years ahead of most athletes his age in his foundation work. Team Tebow is one of the fastest growing celebrity charitable organizations.

Will success spoil Tim Tebow?

It is very unlikely. After all, he is just putting his own stamp on the family business.
