I suppose that IU had no choice but to let Dan Dakich coach.
It's midseason who are they going to get. It had to be an assistant coach and which assistant would be better than Dakich. I mean—he played for the team from 82-85, was a graduate assistant coach from 85-87, an assistant coach from 87-97, and was luckily there when Sampson screwed up again.
The guy obviously knows something about basketball; he was the one who shut Michael Jordan down when IU upset them in '84. If you don't believe me, go to Big Ten Network SuperFans and take the Feb. 25 quiz: question six. He also played and coached (assistant) during the Bob Knight era.
With this string of bad coaches (Davis and Sampson) after firing Knight, they almost needed someone who would coach and possibly think like Knight. Look what he's done so far. He beat Northwestern and Ohio State. I know that's only two games but I think he's going to work out better than either of the two previous choices. To find out if he's going to be any good, we'll have to look for the outcome of the Michigan State game.
If it's close or a win, I say he'll be just fine. Bring on the Spartans; let's see what they've got!
