By far, the most difficult race to handicap on the card today is the Grade 1 Resorts World Casino New York City Wood Memorial at Aqueduct Racetrack, which will be run at 1 1/8 miles. The field of eight contains a handful of speed horses and only one horse has ever run the nine furlong distance before.

Gemologist is undefeated in four career starts and is the morning line favorite. The Todd Pletcher and Javier Castellano combination is lethal, but I'm not going to pick this 3-year-old.

Lumber Guy and Teeth of the Dog both appear to be talented and dangerous but neither will be a factor. Both of these horses will likely be strong early and falter late.

Alpha is the classic stalker and appears to be very dangerous with Ramon Dominguez aboard. This 3-year-old colt has put two impressive wins together after a poor start at Churchill Downs. The addition of Lasix has really helped this horse and today should be no different.

Street Life is also going to stalk the early pace and is the pick. At 4-1, you're going to get an incredible value for a horse that has won two straight races at 1 1/16. The added distance should be no problem, and the early pace will only help him.

Gemologist is going to be tough to beat, but I think Street Life catches the favorite right before the finish line and wins the $1,000,000 Wood Memorial. Alpha will finish third, right in front of Teeth of the Dog and Lumber Guy in 1:50.3.
