Too much of the praise in professional football goes to Offensive players. I'm tired of people saying guys like Tom Brady are the best in the game. If you're ever asked who the best player is, what do you say? If you're like most people, it's someone from the offensive side of the ball.
Even though you here the famous phraze, defence wins championships, you never here there names as the best in the league.
So I've decided to name my top 10.
Proving that the draft doesn't mean everything, James Harrison has over came being undrafted, and for the most part over-looked.
Defensive player of the year 08-09
Stat: 7 forced fumbles 08-09
Regarded as one of the best shut down corners in the league, and has two super bowl rings. Simply put: No one likes lining up against Asante.
Accomplishment: Led League in Interceptions in 2006.
Stats: 06-07 10 ints.
The man who can claim he's turned the 49ers defense around. There is no championship in his near future, but don't be surprised if you hear his name, and a lot.
Accomplishment: None, yet.
Stats: 174 total tackles. (Including assisting tackles)
The two time pro-bowlers was sprung on NFL fans following his 07-08 year. After a massive 15.5 sacks in the 07-08 year, Allen was traded to the Vikings. Now, Allen is a part of the best defensive line in football, which includes Kevin and Pat WIlliams.
Accomplishments: two time all pro.
Stats: 07 - 09. 30 sacks total.
Arguably the best shut-down cornerback in the league. Mathis has started quite the career in Jacksonville. In my eyes he's the best corner in the league.
Accomplishments: 2007 pro bowl starter.
Stats: 2008 2 defensive touchdowns.
Line backer DeMarcus Ware sometimes gets lost when you talk about the worst managed team in professional sports. If he were on another team he would be everyones favorite linebacker, as was Rey Lewis not too long ago.
Accomplishments: 3 time pro-bowl starter.
Stats: 08 -- 20 sacks.
The most dominate Defensive Tackle in the NFL, Pat Williams has never been praised enough for his tremendous skill.
He isn't a statistic tackle, so don't judge purely on stats.
Stats: 18.5 sacks. (career)
Most defensive ends if ever moved, move to Defensive tackle as there career goes on. Julius Peppers wants to move to Outside Linebacker. He truely can excel too, which is scary. Look for him to explode in stats next year.
Accomplishment: Four time pro bowler
Stats: Interception TD for a defensive end.
A reckless, dominate strong safety, that truly has the potential to go down as one of the best of all time. Not to mention a wicked awesome beard...
Accomplishment: Superbowl winner.
Stats: 08 -- 7 Int's
In my opinion the best player in the NFL. I'm not going to bother writing anything for him, I'm just going to suggest you watch a Ravens game.
Accomplishment: 109 yard INT return (record)
Stats: 9 INTS --04 and 08
