Many did not believe the Browns could be in playoff contention in 2007.  Both the offense and defense looked sub-par on paper.

But with the offseason addition of Jamal Lewis and the trade of Charlie Frye after the first week of the season, the sun seemed to peek through the clouds.

Derek Anderson’s emergence as a starter really fired the offense in their week two win over the Bengals.  The Browns found a confidence that had been missing in past seasons, and it showed in their playing.

Defense struggled throughout the season, and the team relied on its offense to keep them in the games.  But even with a D ranking in the bottom of the league, Cleveland was surprisingly in playoff contention in week 17.

Though they didn't end up making the playoffs, they most certainly turned a few heads.

The Browns need to make some additions to their defense this offseason, especially their linebacking unit.

Their offensive line is solid, but they have to make a decision about Lewis.  Anderson seems to be next year's starter, with Brady as the No. 2.

They might try to get a deal for a first round choice, but their main concern must be the holes in the defense.

If Anderson and Lewis return, with the receiving core this team has, Cleveland could soon be knocking on the playoff door again.

But the Browns can't just sit around; they have to make additions to capitalize upon the potential and talent of this team.  If they don't fill the necessary holes, they may come up short again next year.
