LeBron Fans: If it makes you feel better, Kobe Bryant's supporters have been in the exact same situation before.

They too have backed the player with all the good numbers.  Bryant’s play was superior to the rest and he single-handedly led his teams to the playoffs.  Still, he didn't win the MVP.

I am not saying that James will not win it this year—it's hard to tell at this point.  But right now he’s not the favorite; instead James comes in second.

The really bad news is that there's nothing he can do about.  LeBron James has done it all, but that may not be enough.

Kobe Fans: Don’t celebrate just yet.

It’s true that Bryant is having a good season, and he seems to have improved upon those issues that disqualified him in past years.  The result is that his teammates have visibly progressed, and the team looks almost like Jordan's Bulls.

Just remember, it's not locked yet.  Now that the Lakers are such a good team—with undeniably excellent players like Gasol, Bynum, and Fisher—they have to deliver by making it to the playoffs.  They also have to be among the leaders.

So far they are, but don’t forget that the Lakers are competing in the Western Conference and a couple of bad days could knock them from their privileged position.

It’s too early to tell.  Kobe is in the lead for the MVP right now, but he is followed closely by LeBron and Chris Paul.  Let’s wait until the regular season is over.  I am sure whatever happens will surprise.

You say that Kobe's current Lakers team looks like "Jordan's Bulls." Then why did Jordan win the MVP during the 4 years out of the 6 championship years ?
If Jordan won the MVP those years, then Kobe should win as well according to you...

    Kobe ain't Michael Jordan!

LeBron owns Kobe. Kobe fears LeBron.

Kobe will not surpass MJ but LeBron has now surpassed Kobe.

LeBron's only 23 years old, yet he still dominates Kobe every single time.

lebron james can't play defense, his game is no where near as perfected as kobes game.. lebron is just an althletic kid relying on his size and strength.. kobe bryant has perfected his craft and is flawless ont he court both offensivly and defensivly.. until lebron can truly perfect the game of basketball he should not be placed in a sentence enxt to kobe bryant.... plus kobe has accomplished way more in his career then lebron but that is not a fair argument because lebron i sonly 23... i guess we will have to wait until lebron is 28 to see how stacks up

I don't know .. does MVP really matters now? God knows what the criteria really is. I think it's gonna be the mood of voters. Funny to see the fact that the last MVP that won the NBA title was Duncan in 2003 and only 3 of the last 10 MVP winners came from the eventual NBA champ (MJ 98, Shaq 00 and and TD 03). This stupid awards is just like Oscar.

I'd be surprised if LeBron won this year's MVP based on the number. If that's the case, Kobe should've won the MVP for the last two years.

I'm Lakers and Kobe fan. Actually, I don't care if Kobe will never win MVP award. NBA title is way much more important.

Since the NBA awards a Western Conference Player of the week/month as well as an Eastern Conference player of the week award/month, wouldn't it be all fair to all if the NBA awarded a Western Conference season MVP and an Eastern Conference season MVP - both for the regular season? [that would make situations fair to players on teams in the Western conference as they play more competitive clubs REGULARLY]. Then, the NBA MVP should be awarded to the best player from the NBA Finals, taking into cognisance what that player achieved during the regular season, playoff games and the NBA Finals itself.
That would ensure players such as Dirk Nowitzski [best player on a team with the best regular season record for 2006/2007 season & reigning NBA MVP] get due recognition for performance during a regular season.
Two regular season MVP awards for Eastern & Western conferences would mean the MVP for NBA Finals would be more important and encourage players to concentrate more on getting WINS for their teams rather than stuffing stat sheets...especially in a weaker conference.
