The Miami Marlins were one of the most talked about teams this offseason, but the St. Louis Cardinals proved in this game why they are the defending World Series Champions. All eyes were on Marlins SP Josh Johnson and his return to the mound, but it was Cardinals SP Kyle Lohse who stole the show.
Lohse (7.1 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 3 SO) dominated the new-look Miami Marlins offense and spoiled the debut of SS Jose Reyes. Johnson (6 IP, 3 ER, 10 H, 4 SO) had a hard time in the beginning of the game finding his pitches and simply did not play up to expectations.
Reyes was the most effective Marlins player (2-4), while Hanley Ramirez, Giancarlo Stanton and Gaby Sanchez were all hitless.
The win for the Cardinals will be the first of many more needed to retain their title. The Marlins will have to wait until April 13th when they play the Astros before they can try and claim their first win at Marlins Park.
The two teams will play each other again next on June 25th in Miami.
