Is Lewis Hamilton Faster Than The Stig?

When Lewis Hamilton appeared on Top Gear shortly after the Brazilian Grand Prix in 2007, he faced a flooded track, with damaged tyres and a splattering of oil, courtesy of a Vauxhall VXR8.

Many people expected him to lap at least two second slower than The Stig, but to the nation's astonishment, he lapped just 0.1 seconds slower, despite The Stig setting his benchmark of 1.44.3 on a dry track.

The identity of The Stig was always a mystery, that was until Ben Collins made the catastrophic error of asking a Bristol photography service to help him produce some actions hots of him performing as The Stig.

He then went on to admit to the owner of the photography agency that he was The Stig, and that if the world found out, he would be sacked, much like Perry McCarthy in 2003.

There were many suspicions that he was The Stig, such as the builders doing a home re-development job and spotting the famous white suit and helmet on display in his living room.

Then there was the Britcar 24 hours race, and the commentators said that they were sworn to secrecy but that they could reveal that the person in question raced in NASCAR and tested in Formula One on numerous occasions.

The Daily Telegraph broke the unwritten media rule that The Stig's identity was never to be revealed on Sunday, much to the disgust of fans around the world.

The Stig is referred to as the greatest driver ever, but if Hamilton is so close on a flooded, oil ridden track, is he faster on a dry track?

Rumour has it that Hamilton will appear in the next series of Top Gear to settle that dispute once and for all, but do you, B/R, think he can do it?
