It's Official: Rex Ryan Next Jets Head Coach, Now What?

It was only a matter of time after the Ravens lost to the Steelers in the AFC Championship Game until Rex Ryan would be named the next head coach of the New York Jets. The official press conference is expected on Wednesday, but it is already being reported that Ryan signed a four year contract, so now what?

- Expect Brian Schottenheimer to remain signed on as the offensive coordinator, since he finally realized he wasn't getting a better job anywhere else. Hopefully under Ryan's influence there will be a little more consistency with the play-calling and better in-game adjustments.

- Expect Ravens OLB Coach Mike Pettine to be named the defensive coordinator, who Ryan has called his "right-hand man."

- Expect Mike Westoff to remain the special teams coordinator.

- Favre? I don't know but a decision should be reached in the next few weeks. He would free up a ton of cap space for the Jets if he retired, potentially allowing them to chase a few of Ryan's former players like Jay Leonhard (the Jets badly need a safety) or Bart Scott.

- Even if Favre does retire the Jets won't have the money to make a ton of major moves, meaning they will return with mostly the same personnel. Can Ryan make something out of Vernon Gholston? Can he help David Harris return to his rookie season form and become one of the best middle linebackers in the league? Can he make Kerry Rhodes, Ed Reed Light? Can he make Calvin Pace produce like Terrell Suggs?

Expect some interesting press conferences.
