This NBA season could very well go down as the season where the team with the most depth may just have an advantage when it comes to winning, given the scheduling.

While the Mavericks’ season has been very up-and-down (the Mavericks have a record of 30 and 23), the Mavericks are looking to regain their ground as the regular season wraps up.

With the playoffs following, the Mavericks know that they need to play their best in order to make the best attempt at defending the championship.

If that is the case, the Dallas Mavericks definitely received some great news earlier this week regarding the status of guard Delonte West.

West is ready to join the rotation after going on the injured list with a right ring finger injury (non-shooting hand) suffered during a game against the Denver Nuggets in the middle of February.

West signed with the Mavericks in the offseason to add some depth at the guard position and had found a role on the team before the injury occurred. He was averaging 8.3 points and 3.5 assists in the 22 games this season.

West was activated before Thursday’s game versus the Miami Heat and did score seven points in eight minutes in a loss.

With West now in the rotation, head coach Rick Carlisle does not have to fully depend on Jason Terry and Rodrigue Beaubois for scoring. Rather, a rotation consisting of West, Terry and Beaubois should provide enough depth in case one of them has an off-night, as well as providing enough bench scoring on a given night.

The addition of West also provides another weapon for Dirk Nowitzki to use when he faces double-teams posting up against his defender.

Overall, the addition of Delonte shores up the Mavericks' backcourt. With Lamar Odom struggling this season, West could fill a scoring need off the bench.
