It's never wise to throw in against the best golfer in the world, but I've got a feeling about this one: Tiger Woods won't win the 2007 US Open.
Sure, his opening-day 71 has him very much in the hunt. And he is, lest we forget, Tiger Woods, which means he's never out of contention until the clubs are packed and the private jet's taxiing down the runaway.
But something seems to be missing at Oakmont.
Maybe I'm imagining things, or reading too much into irrelevant details. All I know is that Tiger didn't seem to have it on Thursday, the look, the swagger. I don't know why, I don't know what it means; I just know I didn't see it.
Again, it's never a good idea to bet against Stripes, but I'm going with my gut...and calling this one for the Field.
And yes, I'm more than ready to eat those words come Sunday.

Could it be that he has his pregnant wife on his mind? The baby's due "any day now" and that could be a whee-bit of a distraction for Tiger at present.
But in case Tiger does win... would you like some red wine with those words you're eating?
