Jon Gruden Fired from Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Dumont WalkerSenior Analyst IJanuary 16, 2009

The firings in the NFL are not over just yet. News coming out late today indicates that the Tampa Buccaneers have fired Jon Gruden, and general manager Bruce Allen.

This was a move that no one really saw coming.  Gruden was rumored to be on the chopping block, but no one ever considered it was a legit possibility for him to actually be fired.

The Buccaneers won a Super Bowl in Gruden's first year, and they have been in, or near, the playoffs in all of his other seasons.

To say the least this is an odd move, especially coming so late in the offseason. The number of available coaches are beginning to dwindle.
