Montreal Canadiens Playing Great Hockey at Midseason

Charles L. GareCorrespondent IJanuary 16, 2009

It is only my humble opinion, but I feel the Canadiens are playing great hockey at this junction of the season.

The Kostitsyn brothers are starting to come into form, with Andrei scoring in the last four games. Robert Lang has been a great value.

With all the injuries, the team still continues to win.  However, against the Boston Bruins, things didn't go as planned.

You can't win them all, and I feel that the real Tim Thomas has not shown up yet.  He looks like a fish out of water when he makes a save. The Canadiens are showing great form on defense with a low goals against average. At full strength, they are scoring at a good pace.

Their powerplay has been better of late, as they scored another one last night against the Predators.  However, it still needs some work. The Canadiens need more strength up front, and are probably working on it as I write this.  Also, they could use more help on defense, especially a powerplay quarterback.

Bob Gainey seems to be very happy right now. The Canadiens play the Senators on Saturday.   The Sens have won as of late, but the Canadiens are a different team than Ottawa's recent opponents. Also, the Senators are not the same team as last year.  I'm very excited as a Habs fan, and believe they can still finish first in their conference.

If the injuries would stop, and those injured could get back, they will be well on their way.

Where can I comment?
