Dallas Mavericks Report Card

Toby ChristieSenior Analyst IJanuary 15, 2009

Ok now that the NBA season is just about halfway over I thought I would grade out each player from this years Dallas Mavericks, then give the team an overall grade for the season thus far.

Dirk Nowitzki

Dirk is the only player in the NBA to have 2 games of over 44 points this season, he's hitting 91% of his freethrows, and averaging 25.6 points per game, he's definitely not the reason we are losing. GRADE A

Jason Terry

JET's numbers are up from last season in a big way, he's averaging over 20 points per game, and he's hiting 87% of his free throws, all of this off of the bench.  He's definitely also not the reason we're losing.  GRADE B+

Josh Howard

Lots of turmoil off the court, but there is no denying when Josh Howard is on the court he helps his team.  his numbers may be a little down from last season, but he is still averaging 18.8 Points Per Game.  GRADE C

Erick Dampier

Damp is doing okay... about 1.5 blocks per game, to go with 5.6 points per game for the big man.  GRADE C-

Jason Kidd

Kidd has scored double digits in much less than half the games this season, his Assists per game, Free throw %, and shooting % are all down from last season.  The Mavericks may never be able to overcome the silly trade for Jason Kidd.  GRADE D

Antoine Wright

Acquired in the Jason Kidd trade, nothing with that trade went right, and Antoine is no exception.  GRADE F

DaSagana Diop

Diop is only getting 13 minutes per game, and is only averaging 1.3 points per game.  GRADE F

Jose Barea

Barea has 17 multiple turnover games which is not good for a guy who is rarely on the court. GRADE F

Jerry Stackhouse

Stack has only been in 8 games this season due to injury. GRADE Incomplete

Overall mid-season Grade for the Dallas Mavericks

3 games out of 4th in the West is kinda impressive with the way the team has played at times.  It looks like the Mavs missed their huge opportunity they had a couple years back.  D+
