WWE SmackDown Preview: A Tag Team Main Event, the GM War and More

Kyle SchadlerChief Writer IMarch 23, 2012

It’s the end of the week and that means a new episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown!

As the Road to WrestleMania is nearing its end, everything WWE should be heating up big time.

This past Monday’s Raw wasn’t as good as it should have been but this is a new day and a different show.

The company has only confirmed one match as of this writing but here are a few more things to consider going into SmackDown!

John Laurinaitis vs. Teddy Long: Who Will the General Managers Get to Fill the Final Spots on their Teams?

The war for general manager began with multiple arguments between John Laurinaitis and Teddy Long over how the others show should be run.

The board of directors finally stepped in a few weeks ago to settle the matter once and for all.

At WrestleMania, the two general managers will each lead a team of six. The winning team will get their general manager the job of running both shows.

Each team is starting to fill out as Team Johnny currently consists of captain David Otunga, Mark Henry, Christian and American Perfection. Team Teddy has captain Santino Marella, R-Truth and Kofi Kingston.

While Laurinaitis only needs one more member, Teddy still needs three.

Will the SmackDown general manager find more members this Friday? Can the Raw general manager fill out the final spot on his team?

Intercontinental Gold: What’s Next for Cody Rhodes and the Big Show?

Cody Rhodes and the Big Show have been in an interesting feud.

It started when Big Show eliminated Rhodes from the Royal Rumble. He got his revenge at the Elimination Chamber PPV when he eliminated the Big Show from the match.

The following night on Raw, the World’s Largest Athlete threw Rhodes out of a battle royal but the champion quickly got vengeance when he helped Chris Jericho eliminated Big Show.

They’ve been about even in terms of competition but Rhodes has gotten into the head of his challenger.

Rhodes soon started play mind games with Big Show by showing the WWE Universe his most embarrassing WrestleMania moments. Big Show became quite furious with him but at the same time laughed at his own misfortunes.

The two have met a few times in tag-team matches but this past Monday night on Raw, Rhodes would deliver some major blows to his challenger.

After costing him a match against Kane, the champion handcuffed him to the ropes and pounded away on the head of Big Show.

Will the Big Show gain some revenge or can Cody Rhodes keep his momentum?

A Lack of Humanity: What’s Next for Randy Orton and Kane?

What do you do when two major stars have nothing to do for WrestleMania? You stick them in a feud and let them battle it out!

A few weeks after the Elimination Chamber, Kane set his sights on Randy Orton but Orton took the fight directly to him.

The two would wage a physical war for the next few weeks with the Apex Predator delivering multiple RKO’s and Kane attacking Orton after a match.

Last week on SmackDown, Orton wanted to know why Kane chose him and Kane was happy to oblige.

He revealed that when shaking Orton’s hand last summer sickened him. He was human at the time but he wasn’t anymore.

He wanted to take him out because Orton humbled him and he wanted to do it at WrestleMania.

This past Monday on Raw, both superstars appeared but didn’t have any interaction. Kane had a match with the Big Show while Orton delivered a short promo on the Big Red Monster.

With WrestleMania less than two weeks away, they will no doubt come to blows this week on SmackDown.

Will one of them go on the attack or will both Randy Orton and Kane just avoid each other again to wait for the Grandest Stage of Them All?

CM Punk and Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan and the Miz

The WWE Universe saw a match similar to this on Raw two weeks ago but with Chris Jericho instead of the Miz.

CM Punk has been on a major collision course with Chris Jericho. They will do battle at Wrestlemania for Punk’s WWE Championship and Jericho is definitely in the head of the champion.

For the past two weeks, Y2J has been revealing family secrets to the world.

Last week, he revealed that Punk’s father was an alcoholic. This week, he declared that his sister had problems with substance abuse.

It’s his family history with alcohol and drug abuse that keeps Punk straight-edge but that there was a demon inside of him that wanted to have a drink.

Jericho has pushed some major buttons with the champion; will he be able to concentrate on this match?

Sheamus and Daniel Bryan have been butting heads ever since the Celtic Warrior chose Bryan’s World Heavyweight Championship after winning the Royal Rumble.

They have been having a war of words while also going at it in matches like this.

Neither superstar has the clear advantage less than two weeks away from the big event. Will one of them be able to gain that momentum?

The Miz has been on quite the losing streak lately and has been trying to impress John Laurinaitis so that he could join Team Johnny.

The Miz has yet to impress the Raw general manager but could he do that with this match?

Friday Night SmackDown is looking to be a good show.

With Raw overall dropping the ball this past Monday, can SmackDown pick it right back up on this Road to WrestleMania? Tune in to find out!
