Jim Schwartz Leaves Titans to Coach Detroit Lions

Dumont WalkerSenior Analyst IJanuary 15, 2009

The team that went an unprecedented 0-16 last season and set an NFL record en route have finally found a guy they can call head coach.

The Detroit Lions have hired Jim Schwartz as the man they hope to take them out of the NFL’s basement.

Schwartz, the former defensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans, made an impact at his press conference on Monday morning.

"I don't shy away from a challenge," Schwartz said.

Schwartz will have his hands full as he tries to rebuild both the offense and the defense in Detroit. He will have a helping hand with the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft.

Despite some of the needs on the offensive side of the ball, one can expect the Lions to take a defensive approach to the game. There is no doubt that he has the credentials to make a defensive juggernaut based on his experience at Tennessee.
