The Sweet 16 gets underway today and teams like Kentucky and Michigan State will be favored to advance to the Elite Eight, but what teams will actually advance can never truly be predicted.

So the important question is, what big-time players will step up and guide their teams to the next round?

This is another unpredictable factor, as the tournament always seems to provide the platform for a star to be born, If I had to guess, I would expect a big performance out of Wisconsin’s Jared Breggeran against Syracuse without Fab Melo, a fearless Yancy Gates as he goes head-to-head with Jared Sullinger, an inspired showing from Thomas Robinson and a re-emergence out of Perry Jones.

Of course, there’s always the potential for major upsets—like a win by Ohio over UNC—and these are the type of games where an occasional unexpected player will emerge as a savior.
