Dale Earnhardt Jr.: The Daytona 500 Race Date Has Significance

There are some statistics in sports that you cannot ignore.  One of these statistics have helped me with my 2009 Daytona 500 prediction.

The last two times the Daytona 500 has been run on Feb. 15, an Earnhardt has ended up in victory lane. In fact, the worst an Earnhardt has performed on a Feb. 15th race date was fifth place, by Dale Earnhardt in 1981 and 1987.

Feb. 15th Winners of the Daytona 500:

2004: Dale Earnhardt Jr.

1998: Dale Earnhardt

1987: Bill Elliott (Dale Earnhardt finished 5th)

1981: Richard Petty (Dale Earnhardt finished 5th)

The 2009 Daytona 500 will be on Feb. 15, 2009, so it will be hard to pick against my Daytona 500 favorite Dale Earnhardt Jr. Not only is he one of the best restrictor plate drivers, but he also has history on his side.
