Furniture Row Racing officially announced Wednesday afternoon that 2008 Raybestos Rookie of the Year, Regan Smith, will drive the No. 78 Chevy in at least 12 races in 2009.
Smith will make his debut next month in the Daytona 500.
The 25-year-old told reporters, "I look forward to continuing my career with the No. 78 team. Though it's a single-car team that battles heavy odds against the mega multi-car operations, the organization has always been highly respected in the garage for its use of some of the best equipment as well as an undying commitment to growing a winning team.
"That's all a driver can ask for and I can't wait to get to Daytona and compete in another superspeedway race."
Crew chief Jay Guy is very excited to work with the reigning Raybestos Rookie of the Year.
Regan is a past winner at Talladega. However, he has yet to record a top 10 finish in the Sprint Cup Series. In his two years with Ginn Racing and DEI, Smith has an average start of 25th and an average finish of 29th.
Furniture Row Racing put two cars, the No. 78 with Joe Nemecheck and the No. 87 with Kenny Wallace, in the Daytona 500 last year.
After a 2008 season that saw four different drivers, two different engine programs, and a multitude of other changes, will Regan Smith find success?
At 25 years of age, are his chances running out?
Only time will tell.
