Owner of every significant Steelers receiving record, Ward finishes his career with 1,000 career catches (eighth all time), 12,083 receiving yards (18th) and 85 TD catches (13th). He was the MVP of Super Bowl XL.
More than any of the numbers listed above, Ward will be remembered as one of the best blockers to ever play receiver and one of the most physical wide receivers to ever play the game.
Speculation has already begun about Ward’s chances at entering the Pro Football Hall of Fame (I don’t see it myself, but I’m sure Steelers fans will enlighten me on the subject). Regardless, he was a throwback in a throwback town who will undoubtedly be celebrated by Steelers fans long into retirement.
