Dallas, Texas has had a sports team since 1960, when they received the Cowboys as an expansion team. It gained a hockey team in 1967 and a basketball team in 1980.

Dallas has won six major sports championships, the fewest out of the cities in the Titletown, USA competition.

Football: Cowboys (1960-present)

The Dallas Cowboys have had great success in the National Football League. They have made it to the Super Bowl eight times and have won it all five times.

Though they weren’t very good during their early history, the Cowboys soon blossomed into one of the greatest teams in football. They had great success during the late '60s, and that success carried over into the '70s.

Their presence in football continued on until the '80s, when they hit a bump in the road. After five consecutive losing seasons, they bounced back in 1991 and won the Super Bowl in both 1992 and 1993. The last time they won the Super Bowl was in 1995.

The Cowboys have an all-time record of 423-309-6 and a postseason record of 32-24. They have made the playoffs 27 times.

The Cowboys' most notable players include Hall of Famers Emmitt Smith, Monte Irvin, and Troy Aikman. They have also had long-time coach Tom Landry, who coached from 1960 to 1988.

Hockey: Stars (1993-present)

The Dallas Stars, formerly the Minnesota North Stars, moved to Dallas in 1993. They have enjoyed success both on and off the ice. Besides winning the Stanley Cup in 1999, they have also won two Presidents' Trophies, which are awarded to the NHL team that finishes with the best record/most points.

The Stars have won seven divisional titles and two Western Conference Titles in the past 10 years. The Stars, Detroit Red Wings, and New Jersey Devils have earned the most points during that 10-year period.

Basketball: Mavericks (1980-present)

Though the Dallas Mavericks have been around for a while, they haven’t won a NBA championship. They have enjoyed 14 playoff appearances but have only made the NBA Finals once.

Besides its limited success, the Mavericks are the seventh most valuable basketball franchise.
