As is being reported by ESPN, a few minutes ago Peyton Manning instructed his agent to being contract negotiations with the Denver Broncos. This may come as a surprise to many, since as of yesterday it seemed the former Colts QB was going to choose San Francisco.

While this deal isn't yet complete, it seems as if Peyton will be the Broncos quarterback for the next few years or so, which immediately vaults the Broncos to Super Bowl contender status. Much remains to see what they will do with Tim Tebow.

John Elway seems to have gotten his wish, though, as it was pretty apparent that he didn't want Tebow as his franchise quarterback. Elway lead the team to two Super Bowl Championships when he was in his late 30s, and he probably assumes that Manning can do the same and lead the Broncos to their first title in nearly 15 years.

Denver signing Peyton is a surprise to me, as I initially viewed them as a dark horse to get Manning. However, as is the norm these days in free agency in professional sports, anything can happen. So, as of noon today, it looks like Manning will be a Bronco.

Stay tuned for updates.
