International Cricket: West Indies End Losing Streak Against Australia

Dan TalintyreSenior Analyst IIJune 3, 2016

For the first time in five years, the West Indies have something to smile about after a one-day international match against Australia.

The hosts were helped by the weather, but ultimately, it was their fine bowling which set up the historical win with Suril Narine taking 4-27 and Kemar Roach 2-23 as Australia were dismissed for just 154.

After Brett Lee picked up a wicket with the first ball of the West Indies' innings it appeared like another Australian victory was about to occur—especially when the hosts found themselves at 4-74.

However, a strong 64-run partnership between Dwayne Bravo and the big-hitting Kerian Pollard guided the hosts home with five wickets and 11 balls to spare.

It was the first time that the West Indies had defeated Australia in an one-day international since 2006.

Man of the Match Suril Narine said after the match that:

We really needed this win... this will be a huge boost for the players in the team and everyone in the dressing room. This is the first West Indies win over Australia in a long time and it shows that we have it in us to win.

After Australia won the first match by 64 runs, the win ties the series at 1-1 all with the third match to be played in Kingston, Jamaica at 09:30 local time.
