Bobby Labonte Will Drive No. 96 in 2009...Say What? Are You Sure?

al asifyouknowSenior Analyst IJanuary 14, 2009

This guy has been passed around more than the last bottle of moonshine at a NASCAR infield party. (Or maybe my old girlfriend...oh loosen-up, I'm just kidding)

Has this driver finally found a place to hang his helmet? Is it really a done deal? Is it written in stone and tied down to the floor?

I hope so! Now what? Who drives the No. 41 car at Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing?

Well, let's see who is still unemployed (That I would like to see in this team):

       1) Dave Blaney

       2) A.J. Allmendinger

       3) Kyle Petty

All those drivers would be on the half-season sponsor car.

Petty has an ally in the Earnhardt-Ganassi team. Felix Sabates wants him to have the ride, and has made it public in the past. (Check out my article Kyle Petty in the No. 41 car-Not a Bad Choice.)

"Kyle will win races. I am convinced of that 150 percent. Chip doesn't believe it, so there's nothing I can do about it."  That was a Sabates quote at a media event last year.

The war of wills might be at play here, maybe Sabates can win one and Petty get a chance to race.
