The 2009 Sony Open Six Pack

Did everyone enjoy the Mercedes? I know I sure did. Hopefully you all got to see Anthony Kim's near miss of double eagle. What a shot. Geoff Ogilvy performed like the champion he is. It was also nice to see Ernie Els and Adam Scott play pretty well also.
That was then and this is now. Bring on the first full field of the year, we are all ready. My six pack this week is a solid one, and i really like my dark horse selection. When making your selections this week, you should keep in mind that the winner of the Sony Open is typically someone who was in the Mercedes field the week before.
1. K.J. Choi
It doesn't happen very often, but this seems like the stars may be lined up just right for K.J. Choi to repeat as the winner of the Sony Open this year. He is on the threshold of my 20/1 odds, and is coming off a decent T15 showing at The Mercedes Championship.
Choi also has placed T7, T13, and T4 at this course in recent years. He likes this track at Waialae and should be ranked in the top 15 in money on the PGA Tour this year.
2. Zach Johnson
Zach just finished T6 at The Mercedes, and shot 64 and 67 in rounds three and four respectively. Zach has something to prove this year and I expect him to come out of the gate shooting this year.
28/1 is solid value and cannot be overlooked this week. Zach will carry his two sub 70 rounds from Kapalua into the first two and hopefully four rounds of the Sony Open.
3. Luke Donald
I wanted to pick Sean O' Hair to be my #3 man. His performance last week was tremendous. After looking at his track record at Waialae, I could not bring myself to do it.
A much better choice for the same value is going to be Luke Donald.
Luke has been a runner up here and has two T13 efforts as well as a T20. He has only missed the cut once here. With odds of 33/1 to win, he is more than worthy of a "sprinkle".
4. DJ Trahan
This Clemson kid proved last week that he can score low. That's going to be paramount at The Sony come Thursday.
Trahan has got game, and he will look to put together two very good rounds to make the cut. From there he really needs to capitalize on his opportunity and keep his scores in the sixties.
Trahan has some nice odds of 66/1, so keep your eye on him this season.
5. Jerry Kelly
Jerry will not be the youngest player to tee off this weekend, but he is one of the more experienced. He is also a wizard on the course at Waialae.
He's won here before, and if he doesn't win, he usually places in the top ten. If you have an option of picking this guy in your fantasy league this week, THIS IS THE WEEK to use him! If you want to bet on him, he is 66/1. That screams value to me.
Plus, I like Jerry Kelly and I would love to see him start of 2009 with a win. Did I mention he is 66/1? That amazes me.
6. Johnson Wagner
The anticipated dark horse has made his way into the stable. When I saw this guys odds at 81/1 (some books were higher) I almost fell down. He just placed T10 at The Mercedes with two rounds under 70.
He is one of the young guns on tour, and I feel as though 09 is going to be his breakout year.
I expect earnings into the $2 million range for this guy. If he makes 20 percent more cuts this year he will easily hit that level.
Good luck! BLJ
