NASCAR Should Shortened Those Marathons

Everyone complains about not enough passing in NASCAR and not enough racing. I'm not going to tell you what the definition of racing is—I'm sure you know that and if you don't, look it up.

The problem here is that these races are so long, most drivers just look to be driving somewhere safe and waiting for someone to have the misfortune of a blown tire, engine failure or a wreck to gain track position.

It has nothing to do with automobile racing, it is just opportunity. Some of these races should just be called opportunity events.

There is really no passing, just pit gains and wreck gains. That's how you get to the front. Again, understand, I'm not talking about all races, just most of them.

NASCAR needs to shorten these events so the drivers have to race. They shouldn’t be able to wait until the last 60 events to move up.

There are multiple advantages to cut back. It will save NASCAR and its teams time and money in gas and equipment. It will also get fans to watch the whole race on Sunday. That’s always good for NASCAR and its sponsors. I’m probably the only dummy to watch the entire race currently.

Also, the most important thing is that a shorter race will create urgency to race, thus becoming more entertaining.

Do you agree? Maybe you don’t, but let’s be honest—do you watch the whole race?

If you do, it should remind you of a demolition derby. Think of all those beautiful cars all-dented up.
