Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reported an hour ago that a trade had been made in principal to send star guard Monta Ellis to the Milwaukee Bucks in return for center Andrew Bogut.

Also departing Golden State is rising star Ekpe Udoh and veteran Kwame Brown. Forward Stephen Jackson will accompany Andrew Bogut to his new home in Oakland.

Already questions of whether or not the Warriors intend to buy out Jackson (one source says no) and how Brandon Jennings and Monta will gel in a shared backcourt (early consensus: not well) are swirling in the Twitterverse.

Golden State beat reporter Marcus Thompson has already offered a choice tweet on the blockbuster deal:

Said one Warriors player: "So we're just giving up on the season?" 4:53 PM - 13 Mar 12

The anonymous player makes a decent point. With Bogut potentially out until next season with an ankle injury, the Warriors become immediately worse without the presence of Ellis, ranked ninth in in scoring in the NBA. Owners Joe Lacob and Peter Gruber may indeed be ready to close the books on 2011, hope for a lottery pick and plan towards 2012.

One thing is certain: Until Bogut's health, Ellis' ability to adapt and the true value of Udoh and Jackson to their new squads can be assessed, it is difficult to declare a winner in this trade. Golden State has a habit of undervaluing talent, like when they cut a certain PG earlier this season. Many will find the trade a slam dunk for the Bucks, but if Bogut stays healthy, it's hard to know what kind of a career he can have.
