Selection Sunday is a great day for fans of college basketball, but it isn’t always so much fun for the players. Between the bubble teams who find themselves headed to the NIT and the ones who make the field but miss out on the seeds they deserve, there’s plenty of disappointment to go around.

Of all the teams left out of the tourney field last night, few have as much reason for regret as Northwestern. For the second year in a row, John Shurna and company were this close to ending the program’s streak of missing the Big Dance for 73 years (also known as every NCAA tournament ever), but came up short.

For all their frustration, though, the Wildcats aren’t even the team with the best argument for belonging in the field of 68 despite being on the outside looking in. Have a look at this collection of teams who deserve to be playing (or playing from a better seed) in the 2012 edition of March Madness.
