This Week in Pro Wrestling: With Christian Cage on Horizon, All Bets Are Off
The WWE got some much needed help last night. As TNA continues to swan dive into oblivion, the three other brands continue to add zip to their storylines. Because of Sunday's Genesis, TNA lost some votes for Brand of the Week in my opinion.
But there is hope. On the horizon, several superstars are jumping ships and returning in royal fashion in the upcoming weeks. One of those has been making some serious noise even behind the scenes.
That person is Christian Cage...and he's coming to WWE real soon.
With that said, here is a look at what's on tap for this week in the squared circle. And realize this:
All bets are officially off!
WWE RAW: Never Send a "Kid" to do a Longhorn's Dirty Work!
RAW will have one hellacious main event to go with the anarchy known as Stephanie McMahon.
Tonight, we are expecting more names to be added to the short list of superstars who are participating in the 2009 Royal Rumble. From RAW, there's Chris Jericho, Randy Orton, Kofi Kingston and Rey Mysterio. Who else will get their name called to represent the brand in the biggest spectacle to begin the year?
CM Punk won his match against William Regal via disqualification. Regal kept his gold, but he may not have it for long as Stephanie McMahon has made it clear that the two men will face each other one more time, and this time Regal has no way out. If Regal gets himself DQ'd this time, he loses his precious Intercontinetal Championship.
Speaking of champions, John Cena has a date with his past when he faces JBL at The Royal Rumble for the World Heavyweight Championship, a title Layfield has pursued for several years. But the Longhorn Jackass has been pulling all stops to ensure that when the Rumble is over, he's the one hoisting the gold above his head. And he may have the right person to help him do just that...
After surviving a tag match last week against Chris Jericho and Randy Orton, John Cena and Shawn Michaels have a new task ahead of them: Each other. Thanks to JBL, his employee/puppet HBK will face the World Champion in the hopes that he will further weaken the Chain Gang Commander before his title match at The Rumble.
Can Cena survive a Wrestlemania rematch with the Heartbreak Kid? And what role will Shawn's employer play in the outcome of the main event?
ECW on Sci-Fi: Sooners Look For Retribution
The Land of Extreme continues to prove that you can pack a huge punch in 60 minutes. And this Tuesday will be no different. After last week, the Extreme Kingdom is looking like it has an invasion from The Sooner Nation.
In other words, Matt Hardy hopes to do what his beloved Carolina Panthers couldn't do...win when it counts.
After defeating the World's Strongest Man once again, Matt Hardy found out that Tuesday night, he will defend the ECW Championship against The All American American, Jack Swagger.
Can The Sooner bring a championship back to Oklahoma? Or will the real Carolina Panther show why he is a fighting ECW Champion once again?
Speaking of the World's Strongest Man, he and Finlay both suffered defeats last week to the two men in the main event. Has the war between them been put on hold...or has it just gotten started? Who will Teddy Long send from The Land of Extreme to Detroit Rock City for the Royal Rumble Match.
TNA IMPACT! Failing to Cross the Line for over six years!
Just when we thought that we start to see this official crossing of the line, they continue to fall way short of the obvious. It's clear the TNA wants to falter and disappear like WCW, so why don't we help them with that?
At Genesis, both Sting and Kurt Angle came out victorious (lame), while the remaining members of The Main Event Mafia (minus Nash, who was out with a staph infection) suffered a loss to The Front Line team of Brother Devon, AJ Styles and Mick Foley. So this Thursday should bring some serious gloating from the Mafia, right?
Not too much because Angle will have to step into the ring this week. After a hellacious battle with Jeff Jarrett (which left him with possibly a shattered ankle), Angle will face Styles in a severe renewal of an old rivalry. But there's another twist: Mick Foley will be the special enforcer for this match as well!
As for Sting, he survived the war with Rhino...for now. He may not be able to enjoy his victory that much. Rumor has it that several superstars that have suffered the wrath of The Mafia are looking for payback, and it may start this Thursday.
So what will happen this Thursday? Even better, will TNA get the message and realize that they can't keep satisfying the wants of The Grumpy Old Men?
WWE SmackDown: The Return of The Enigma
Last week, Jeff Hardy was unable to be at SmackDown due to an incident involving a hit and run accident. Hardy did deliver a message to the SD Fans: That he will be back this week, and he will be defending the WWE Championship against Edge at The Royal Rumble.
When Hardy returns to SmackDown, what will Vickie and Edge try to do to give them an advantage heading into Detroit? And what will Hardy do to whoever tried to take he and Beth out?
Speaking of Vickie, she put Triple H through not one, not two but Three Stages of Hell for his antics two weeks ago. No one knows what condition Triple H will be in this Friday night, but we do know that we will be extremely pissed off after losing to Big Show in the Last Man Standing Match.
So when you take Triple H (who is in The Rumble), add Jeff Hardy (who is facing Edge for the gold at The Rumble) and make sure that Edge and Vickie will be out to run their mouths, what did you get? A truckload of hell and a few more names added to The 2009 Royal Rumble.
