Minneapolis, MN.-Adrian Peterson may be a better running back, but Brian Westbrook is the more all around athlete and had the last laugh Sunday in the NFC Wildcard Playoffs.
The Philadelphia Eagles (9-6-1, 1-0 playoffs) defeated the Minnesota Vikings 26-14 Sunday at the Metrodome and advance to face the New York Giants next week in the NFC Divisional Playoffs.
Leading 16-14 in the fourth quarter, the Eagles hoped to put the Vikings away who had kept the game close all day. Westbrook brought in a screen pass and raced 71 yards into the endzone, giving Philadelphia a 23-14 lead. David Akers tacked on a field goal to end the game.
Two Akers field goals put Philadelphia ahead 6-0 in the first quarter, but like he does so often, Peterson scored on a 40 yard run to give the Vikings a 7-6 lead. Akers added another field goal and the Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson threw an interception to Asante Samuel, which was returned 44 yards for a score. Peterson added another three yard run to make in 16-14 at halftime, where it stayed until the fourth quarter.
Donovon McNabb threw for 300 yards with one touchdown pass and one pic. Westbrooke only had 38 rushing yards but 83 in the air. Jackson finished 15 of 35 for 164 yards, one interception without a score. Peterson ran for 83 yards on 20 carries.
