Oakland Athletics, Jason Giambi Reunited: Veteran Wants To Win

Joseph LopezCorrespondent IJanuary 10, 2009

The Oakland Athletics recently signed a former player of theirs, Jason Giambi. Giambi adds a huge bat in the lineup for the A's—he hit .247, with 32 HR and 96 RBI.

To say the A's won't make a run for the division is totally wrong. The A's are sporting a very dangerous and respectable middle-of-the-order lineup—Cust, Holliday, Giambi, and Chavez.

Giambi will primarily serve as the team's DH, unless Daric Barton continues his horrible performance from last year. Cust will probably be in the outfield, though he's not known for his defense. The Athletics GM, Billy Beane, has done a nice job addressing the offense so far. However, he could add a veteran pitcher to help anchor a young pitching staff.

One thing is for certain, however—Giambi is back with the team he started his career with. Giambi brings power and leadership to the young A's lineup. Look for more runs, and more exciting games this season.
