5 NBA Teams Charging Way Too Much for Admission
While all teams in the NBA charge more than they should for a ticket to a game, here are five teams that are charging fans way too much to watch his or her favorite team.
Thanks to teams like the New York Knicks and Miami Heat, who had significant increases, the league averaged a 1.7 percent rise in average ticket prices from last season.
It is still possible to buy cheaper tickets as each team still sells a $10 ticket for their games, but for the seat one would get it would be better to stay home and watch the game on TV.
After looking at this list and matching it up to a team's current performance, here are the teams whose average ticket price is too high in relation to their performance on the court.
Average Ticket Price: $60.63
The Phoenix Suns have the sixth highest average ticket price in the NBA but are not among the top six teams.
Despite the efforts of Steve Nash and Marcin Gortat, who have each played well this season, the Suns are struggling through the year.
They currently sit in the 12th spot in the Western Conference and look to be headed to the draft lottery for the second season in a row.
The average cost of a ticket in Phoenix did drop three percent from last season, but the way they are playing, it did not drop enough.
Average Ticket Price: $46.98
Maybe it has something to do with the exchange rate from Canada to the United States, but the average ticket price for the Toronto Raptors is far from being a good deal.
To their credit, the Raptors do have an average price below the league average and have dropped prices by the second highest rate since last season.
Unfortunately, they have not been able to put a good team on the floor, as the Raptors currently have only 13 wins all year.
Unless the Raptors can acquire some better players through a trade or during the offseason, they may have to drop ticket prices once again to make it worth going to watch them play.
Average Ticket Price: $48.17
The Sacramento Kings' average ticket price comes in just below the league average of $48.48, but that is still not worth it to watch them play.
The Kings have only 12 wins this season and often play like a team that has no direction and no real leader.
They team has worked to find a little bit more structure, but must make improvements on the floor as the ticket prices will only rise to pay for the new basketball arena that they will be building in Sacramento.
Average Ticket Price: $29.27
Even though the Charlotte Bobcats have the third lowest average ticket price in the entire NBA, the fact that they are charging money for tickets at all makes the price too high.
The Bobcats were not expected to win a lot of games this season, but with only five wins at this point of the year, things could not be worse for the team.
Charlotte did get a big win recently against the Orlando Magic, but just over 13,000 fans paid to see it.
The Bobcats are setting themselves up well to win the first overall selection in this upcoming draft.
Although it will be a free event, the team will have more fans at the arena to watch the draft than they will at some of the late season games this year.
New York Knicks
Average Ticket Price: $117.47
Even if the New York Knicks were more of the elite NBA team that many thought they would be with Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler, this average ticket price would be ridiculously high.
This average is more than $18 over the average of the second place team and nearly $100 more than the Memphis Grizzlies, whose average ticket price is $22.95.
To make matters worse, the Knicks also charge the most for a beer at $9.50 per cup, and have one of the highest parking costs at $30 per spot.
In addition to the highest average, the Knicks also had the highest increase on average ticket prices at 32.5 percent over last season.
In the end it will cost the average NBA fan a small fortune to attend a home game at Madison Square Garden.
