The January transfer market has been compared to many things over the years. Its chaotic, blind-spending action is perhaps closest to a circus.
But the January transfer window reminds Jose Mourinho of a saloon door.
"...the transfer market is like a saloon door in a Western, it opens and closes both ways.” Jose Mourinho said. Don't worry, R-R doesn't get it too.
Mourinho's words are philosophically arguable, but the stars of the January window are certainly Manchester City.
City are linked with every above-average footballer around the globe. From Kaka, Lionel Messi, Gianluigi Buffon and Cristiano Ronaldo to Scott Parker, Craig Bellamy and Shay Given. City are linked with pretty much every footballer out there.
This time, Argentineanx striker Mauro Zarate, who is owned by Qatari club Al Sadd and has been playing excellent ever since his loan move to Lazio, is linked to a move to Manchester.
A moment before City's interest in him became public, Zarate was worth £10m. But now that the sheikhs at City want him, he is worth £30m.
Off course Manchester wouldn't want Zarate to feel lonely at the City of Manchester. Why not couple him with Roque Santa Cruz?
According to reports, City have made a "take it or leave it, we ain't here to negotiate" £17m bid for Blackburn's Santa Cruz.
Oh, Donovan, Landon Donovan, has signed a loan deal that will take him to Bayern possibly until late March! While Roy O'Donovan, has signed for Blackpool on a season-long loan from Sunderland.
Glen Johnson has signed a new four and a half year deal with Portsmouth. Johnson has been linked with a move to Liverpool but they have been discouraged with a hefty price tag on Johnson's hairy head.
Tottenham are said to be interested in signing Chelsea winger Joe Cole but Luiz Felipe Scolari has told the Spurs to forget about it.
Arsene Wenger hints his transfer negotiations, principally for Zenit St Petersburg playmaker Andrei Arshavin, are progressing well.
West Ham midfielder Lee Bowyer joins Birmingham on loan until the end of the season. With all West Ham's team being torn apart, finally there is some good news for The Hammers' fans!
Blackburn will take Marco Zoro on loan. But this Zoro won't be wearing a black mask.
Everton have their hearts set on Hearts pair Andrew Driver and Christophe Berra.
Stock's Ritchie De Laet has completed his Manchester United switch.
Until next time,
