Knicks Trade Rumors Tracker: Latest Updates Ahead of NBA Trade Deadline
While everything is looking up in the Big Apple, Knicks general manager Glen Grunwald is in the tough position of deciding if this team is capable of making a deep playoff run or if he needs to roll the dice and make one more big move.
With that in mind, here's the latest look at the buzz around the New York Knicks as the trade deadline rapidly approaches.
ESPN's Chris Broussard says that New York is a place that Howard would sign long-term, but he's the only one that seems to offer that sentiment.
Most feel that New York is still not a place Howard would consider even though Broussard says the Knicks could offer up a package that no other team could match, including Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler.
Peter Vecsey of the New York Post seems to feel the Knicks are the dark horse team to land Howard.
Vecsey quoted an unnamed Eastern Conference general manager who says..
"I’m positive the Knicks have called just in case Dwight changes up. I’m sure they’ve offered a combination of everybody, excluding Jeremy Lin, of course. [Magic GM] Otis [Smith] deserves a lot of credit for not putting it out on the street which teams have offered what."
While there are a few that think the Knicks could be players for Howard, it's a very steep price to pay for a guy who isn't sure if he wants to be in New York or not.
Don't look for the Knicks to be able to move Stoudemire in an attempt to acquire Howard, even though it was thought of early on in the season.
There are too many concerns over his ailing knees and as Broussard adds, his knees and his drop in production make him too risky of a proposition for the Magic.
There aren't many trade options involving the Knicks right now, but one positive rumor surfaced from FoxSports.com's Chris Tomasson concerning the newest member of the Knicks J.R. Smith.
Tomasson says that Smith intends to pick up his $2.5 million player's option and return to the Knicks next season.
That's big for the Knicks, giving them another good athlete and solid shooter at a very affordable contract.
