Fabio Coentrao is facing a spell on the sidelines after picking up an injury in his country's friendly match on Wednesday.

The Portugal international played only 21 minutes in the match against Poland. The national team doctor refused to express his opinion on how long the defender will be absent from the team, but it has been reported by Record (h.t goal.com) that he will miss at least three weeks. More realistically, Coentrao will miss the whole month.

Coentrao has now joined Angel Di Maria and Karim Benzema, who recently suffered tough injuries, on the sidelines for Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Lassana Diarra and Hamit Altintop are still believed to be injured. The left-back has already had injury problems this season when he spent a month out of action after suffering minor knee and hamstring injuries, as reported here.

Coentrao's injury is yet another huge blow to Jose Mourinho, who now won't be able to pick him for the next four La Liga games as well as the return leg of the Champions League match against CSKA Moscow.

Despite all of the injury woes Mourinho is having, Real Madrid currently sit on top of the league with a 10-point lead over their arch rivals Barcelona.

Real Madrid now expect a tough home game against Espanyol on March 4, before going away to play Real Betis.
