The Florida Gators defeated the Oklahoma Sooners, 24-14, to win their second National Championship in three years.
Led by their impressive quarterback, Tim Tebow, the Gators were able to ride out a nice victory. Both quarterbacks in the game threw for two touchdowns and two interceptions, which were fairly average nights for the two Heisman Trophy winners.
Percy Harvin, the dynamic Florida Gators playmaker, was the leading rusher for the team. He amassed 121 rushing yards on nine carries, adding a rushing touchdown.
Jermaine Gresham, the standout Sooner tight end, was the game's leading receiver, amassing 62 receiving yards on eight catches, adding two touchdowns.
The game was not as clean-cut as one would have hoped. Both teams struggled offensively through the first half of the game, which was a real surprise considering their offensive prowess over the course of the regular season.
However, it will undoubtedly leave fans wondering if these teams were the absolute two best teams in all of college football. The Utah Utes finished the season undefeated, so they will undoubtedly have a case.
All in all, it was an exciting watch and a great win for the Gator Nation. After the game, Tebow would not announce if he planned on returning to Florida, but repeated his love for the Florida fan base.

Utah does have a case for being the National Champion. A shame we don't have the +1 game. Would like to see how Utah and Florida would stack up to one another.
I hope Tebow comes back to Florida for one more year. He is a class act and brings a lot to college football.
I also hope people don't dis this game too much. Yes it was low scoring, but at the same time, it proves the old saying, "Offense sells the tickets, but defense wins the game."

Tell that to Texas and UFC who played the best BCS championship game of all time a few years back that went down to the last play. This was a miserable game to watch and both teams were rusty.

I was expecting a higher scoring game than what was played. Oklahoma left points on the field by trying a run play on 4th and goal in the second quarter and throwing an Interception with 10 seconds left in the first half. I think Stoops took chances he didn't have to take and in the end it costs his team a chance to win the game with it's last drive.
Tebow played OK at times and poorly at other times. He threw some INT's and didn't impress me much with his passing. I was impressed with how elusive he was when turning a loss into a short gain.
I was impressed with Sam Bradford's patience in the pocket and that's why he is projected to be a top5 NFL draft pick this year. He is a pure pocket passer. Oklahoma finally played a team that took advantage of it's mistakes. They had to many penalties that ended up shooting themselves in the foot.
Urban Meyer is a great college football coach. He has track stars playing WR & RB and uses misdirection to get them the ball in space.
I left away most impressed tonight with the prospects of Jermaine Gresham. He proved that he will be a real difference maker at the next level in the passing game. I was also impressed with Percy Harvin playing on a sprained ankle.

Just to expound on Tebow's passing - Most of his passes are short crossing patterns that are misdirection plays and the WR's gain the yards after catch. On the other hand Sam Bradford is able to make every pass whether it's a touch pass or a fastball.
Not trying to take anything away from Tebow but he is at best a TE or FB at the NFL level.

You apparently did not see his first completion to Nelson, which was thrown about 30 yards on a rope with a Sooner DB hanging on Nelson's back.
Bradford is a very good quarterback, but he overthrew receivers on at least three occasions last night, about the same number as Tebow.

After watching last nights game, I would say Bradford needs some work. He was very obviously flustered after UF got to him on his first drive. He handed the next three off. Then on the goal line both times he was stopped he looked confused. He didn't seem to handle the pressure very well, and there really wasn't a ton of it.

Hate to say it to all you Utah fans out there, but Utah does not have a case for a national championship. Utah knew going into the season that they were not in a BCS automatic qualifying conference and had a snowballs chance in hades of making to the "big game". They played their season with little or no complaint until it became apparent to them that "Hey! If we were in a different conference we would probably be playing in the National Championship game. The system is biased against us!"
All of this reminds me of a story. There was a person who applied for a position with a reputable company. They claimed the company had biased hiring practises for that position and that they were being excluded. If that person would of read the "fine print" of the application they would of noticed that there was a clause that stated the position which they were applying for required that the applicant be apart of the local union. "I am qualified for this job!" they shouted to Human Resources, but they were told time and again. You may be qualified, but the position has a clause that you are yet to meet.
You have 9 months until kick off 2009. Either join the "Union" or step aside.

If Utah fans want to make new arguments, then one has to revisit the fact--after last night--that Percy Harvin did not even dress for the Florida-Alabama game.

Utah now becomes a very unhappy member of the undefeated non-champion club... Auburn fans know just how they feel - as do a few other past teams.
Having said that... I believe that the Gators deserve the championship... hell, they played two number 1 teams in a row and beat both of them... away from the Swamp!!! Texas and USC can complain all they want… the Gators got the job done to get to the national championship game then won it.
However, I predict that in a few more years we will have more cases where outstanding teams will make statements worthy of national title consideration - causing even more year end confusion... This will result in popular sentiment piling up against the current BCS format standard. In addition, traditional bowl agreements/formats will continue to erode... this and the development of a desirable post season revenue format will ultimately lead to a playoff system... of sorts...

With full disclosure in mind here, let me say that I am an Alabama fan. Now, let me say that I feel Alabama was overrated and never should have been ranked No. 1. Winning all your games doesn't mean you are the best team in the country. Sorry Utah! Just because you were 13-0 doesn't make you the best. Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, USC and possibly evenOhio State would have beaten you. Florida is the best , period! We played Florida down to the wire and the best team won. No if ands or buts. Had we played Utah that same way the score would have been different. When Nick Saben said that "Alabama was the only unbeaten team left in a REAL BCS conference", he was correct at that time. The fact that Utah used the word "real" as something of a disparaging remark was not correct. Maybe he should've used the word "accredited" BCS conference. Theat is what he meant anyway. That is what everyone else is calling it. It had nothing to do with whether Utah had a good or bad team. He repeatedly stated the very obvious that Utah does in fact have a very good and well coached team. He told his players that over and over. The fact that they didn't listen wasn't his fault. If Utah wants to be in a Real BCS conference, by all means join one.
