Fighting, Gina Carano, Kim Couture

Randy Couture's third wife, Kim, will have her first professional fight on February 23rd in Las Vegas. The fight will be a Muay Thai/boxing event. She has been training with Xtreme Couture for a few years and has recently rolled with Gina Carano.Fightergirls.com lists no amateur record for Kim and a quick search on the net does not offer any amateur information.

According to articles on the net Kim said "I was working out with her. During pro practice and while training with her, it makes you think. I had always been an athlete, and it makes you want to compete to see how you fare. We had one of the toughest crews and with training with Gina, I thought it stood to be somewhat decent."

After her comment the assumption is that Kim has never competed at all.

Many fighters make names for themselves, other than those famous through other means, starting from the ground up.  Fighters have to start with low level, no-name, amateur promotions.  Then, if a fighter is good enough, he or she will move up to decent amateur fights and eventually low level pro-fights.

Years can pass before an opportunity like the UFC.  What gives Kim the right to have those opportunities?

Yes, she trains with some of the most amazing martial artists the world has to offer.  But that doesn't mean she’s ready to fight professionally.

This fight could ruin much of the credibility that women fighters like Gina Carano and Shitako Shinasi have worked so hard to acquire and maintain.

Your name shouldn't buy a professional fight or a professional contract.

  1. Face it Jen, marrying a legend who is enjoying worldwide popularity would enhance any career she chose to explore. Don't take it so hard. There are lots of eligible MMA fighters for you to set your cap for; then you too can get a step up at being an MMA fighter on the national scene. Good luck!

  2. While I agree that it is a bit suspect that a person with little to no training is getting a pro fight, I say, give her a chance. Either she wins and she is a step closer to proving she belongs, or she loses and probably never fights again. Besides, is the event a very big one, or just a local one?

  3. It is to be at a smoker, and I wonder if Jen is just upset because Kim got to train with Jen's idol Gina Carano who Jen says "doesn't fight for money". You know, the beautiful "Crush" on American Gladiators' fame? I believe the smoker is to be held in Las Vegas for a charity.

    1. Right Dorothy... I love Gina Carano, can't get enough of her

  4. Nice article!

I think its hard to judge her before we actually see her fight, but it is true that she is getting alot of opportunities which are coming undeserved. We really don't know how intense her training sessions have been or how serious she has taken the sport, but I guess we will find out soon enough
