When it comes to adding items to your hockey memorabilia collection, eBay is always a great place to look. The online auction website has everything from pucks, hockey jerseys and trading cards to...hockey-themed Happy Meal toys, vintage lunchboxes and cookie jars.
Yep, you read that right. If you want something to celebrate your team pride or show off your love of hockey in general, eBay is the place to look. Everything you can think of is available, but some items are more outlandish in general.
I am an eBay fan myself, and when I was given the assignment to bring you the 25 wackiest hockey items on the site, I couldn't wait to jump in.
So here you go, hockey fans. In no particular order, here are the 25 wackiest hockey items I could find over several days of researching every eBay category.
Asking Price: $180.00
These McDonald's NHL-themed Muppets were a promotion in the 1990s. The animals are wearing jerseys modeled after the style worn in the 1996 NHL All-Star Game, and this listing allows you to purchase the set. You get Animal, Kermit the Frog, Fozzie and Miss Piggy.
This is a great gift if you are the nostalgic type, or if you have any young hockey fans in your life.
Asking Price: $59.99
This Red Wings cookie jar would be a great edition to your home. It's even better that the chef is decked out in Red Wings colors, from the logo on his jacket to the red trim throughout the rest of his outfit. Definitely a great conversation piece in the kitchen.
Asking Price: $13.99 (Note: There is more than one listing available.)
Pez dispensers are a classic item, and there's nothing better than to have NHL-themed ones. The ice mask is black with silver trim, while the fire mask is red with multi-colored frames. These also come with two packs of Pez candy.
These were only sold in Canada, so if you're in the USA and want to own one, you'd better get over to eBay!
Sold for: $9.95
I cheated here because this listing ended on Wednesday, and I couldn't find another one for sale on eBay. However, I couldn't resist putting it here.
It looks to have been made in the 1970s and comes with a detachable puck. The cradle rests on a hockey rink, and it's a great addition to wherever you're resting the phone. It definitely looks more exciting than putting a phone on the same old wooden table.
Asking price: $89.95
This Donald Duck bobblehead, referred to as Backstop Donald, features the popular Disney character dressed as an NHL goalie. He comes in different teams such as the Los Angeles Kings (pictured above) and the Carolina Hurricanes.
He seems like an ordinary bobblehead, but what made me put it here is the fact that he catches the puck in his mouth.
Which other NHL goalies can do that?
Asking Price: $18.00
The listing isn't clear on when these were made, but I am going to assume they are from the 1990s. They have the look, and Steve Yzerman and Sergei Fedorov were stars in this era.
The seller says these are in "like new" condition. However, the cereal is not in them (maybe we should be grateful for that). If you are a Red Wings fan or are just a big fan of these two players, you'll want to jump on this.
Asking price: $12.99
These toothbrushes are nicely decked out in team colors and logos, from the bristles all the way down to the base. In addition to being a fun way to remind yourself of team spirit everyday, they can also be used to wash out the bad taste of your team's struggles or lack of movement at the trade deadline.
Well, at least that's how I see it.
Asking Price: $10.49 (more than one listing available)
If you love the Rubik's cubes from the 1980s, then you'll love solving it with an NHL theme.
By the way, if any of you ever have figured it out, you can feel free to comment and brag.
Asking Price: $5.00 starting bid
If you were a kid in the 1990s, you probably loved playing with Pogs, and this set is a great way to re-live your childhood.
The listing comes with the Pogs and the plastic, so you would need the flipper. But even if you don't play the game, these are a great collector's item.
Asking Price: $1,000,000
I don't even know what this is, and I'm not sure if you do. Please explain it to me in the comments if you do understand it.
I do know that you don't have $1,000,000 to get it, either.
I just thought it was cool, OK?
Asking Price: $99.95
No matter what team you cheer for, this would be a perfect item to have in any room of your house. I did link to a Pittsburgh Penguins fan, but you can choose from any of the other 29 teams.
Hockey fans generally don't like summer, so when trying to cool off, you can always look up and mentally think of how many days are left until opening night.
Asking price: $6.95
If having dead presidents on your money isn't quite your thing, these San Jose Sharks dollar bills are a great collector's item. In addition to having the Sharks logo on the bill, you can also purchase ones with popular players such as Joe Thornton and Logan Couture.
Maybe there should be a revolution in money production?
Asking price: $74.95
Guys, if you can convince your significant other to let you get this in the house (if you have a significant other), then it would go a long way towards giving your home a more masculine touch.
Of course, it works even better if your girl likes the same team you do. I know I'd let my man have one.
Asking price: $24.99
These sneaker slippers are a great way to be comfortable around the house, perhaps while watching your favorite team on TV.
The above listing links to a pair of Chicago Blackhawks slippers, but other teams are available.
Asking price: $89.99
These Converse sneakers are designed to look like an ice skate and are adorned in New York Rangers colors. The sneakers, designed in the 1970s, also come in a Converse box with an official street hockey rule book.
Asking price: $24.99
This was a giveaway item at a recent Cincinnati Cyclones (ECHL) game. The bobblehead doll features Twister, the Cyclones mascot, dressed in Michael Jackson's Thriller outfit.
It is a unique item to be sure, but I feel a little terrified just looking at it.
Asking price: $16.99
I'm not even sure what to make of this one. Except that Marian Gaborik doesn't look as bad with a duck nose as you'd expect.
This would be a great collection item for those of you that love displaying objects that are as off-the-wall as possible.
Asking price: Currently sits at $99.95
This jacket is a cross between badass and the fashion of the 1980s and early 1990s we'd like to forget.
The asking price is a little high for me personally when you consider that it's just a jacket, but obviously, someone wants it bad enough.
Asking price: Currently at $0.99
These toys from McDonald's provide some amusement, as it's always funny to see how a player would look with an oversized helmet or goalie mask.
There is two days left on the linked auction and no bidders. If you'd like to get in on the action, you get Carey Price (Montreal Canadiens), Evgeni Malkin (Pittsburgh Penguins), Jarome Iginla (Calgary Flames), Alexander Ovechkin (Washington Capitals), Vesa Toskala (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Roberto Luongo (Vancouver Canucks).
Please note the image is from another site, and thus, these toys are not autographed.
Asking price: $38.99
(Apologies for the image; I could not save the photo of the actual jacket.)
While this jacket isn't directly a hockey-related item, any 1990s movie buff will remember the scene in Sudden Death where the plotline is to save Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh from blowing up.
If you love that moment, and the movie as a whole, this is a must-have souvenir.
Asking price: $3.33
If you're a hockey fan on a budget, this would be a good way to build your memorabilia collection.
The majority of the character's body is shaped like a hot dog, with its arms and sides acting as the bun. The purple equipment adds a touch that puts this over the top, but still fun to have. And you can bend it into different positions. Isn't it fun to be a kid again?
Asking price: $5.59
Hockey and s'mores. What could be better in the winter?
This ornament is making me hungry...
Asking price: $1.99
If you play in a recreational league and are confident in your abilities, you'll want to get this and brag to your friends and family about just how good you are.
Maybe Wayne Gretzky wouldn't approve, but the odds are pretty low of running into him anyway.
Asking price: $49.99
This item is probably meant more for any youth hockey fans you know, but it's a great way to cool off in the summer while looking forward to next hockey season.
Unlike other slip 'n slides, you play hockey while getting sprayed with water. It makes for a fun challenge and an element you'd never see in hockey games.
But doesn't it make you wonder what it would be like to spray your arch-rivals with water to get an advantage in an NHL game?
Asking price: $549.95
This is the time of year when people are shopping for outdoor furniture, and if you have the budget to buy something like this, it will add a punch to your deck and make a good conversation piece.
The ottoman is modeled after hockey stick blades, while the top of the chair and the seat look like actual sticks. It even looks comfortable and polished.
Why wouldn't you want it?
