No Jonathan Toews, no wins. It's as simple as that.

The Chicago Blackhawks' captain has been out for more than a week with an "upper-body" injury and there is no timetable for his return. The Blackhawks have gone 2-3 in his absence.

It is important to note just how important Toews is to this Chicago Blackhawks team. Being the captain and leader of the locker room and not to mention the best player on the roster. Leading the team in goals scored and can arguably be called the best best two-way forward in the game today.

To say that Toews can be replaced in this lineup would be denying his ability to win games based on his grit and determination.

So just why are the Blackhawks doomed without Jonathan Toews in the lineup?

Team Leader/Captain

Jonathan Toews is one of the youngest captains in the NHL though his ability to lead a team to a Stanley Cup victory shows how experienced he is.

His ability to manage a roster as talented as the Blackhawks takes dedication and an appreciation from all the players who listen to him. Not easy to gain respect from fellow hockey players especially at the young age of 23.

When Toews is not on the ice -or when he is injured—the Chicago Blackhawks look as if they have lost a little pace to their game.

Toews is a team leader not only one the ice but in the stat book as well. He is still leading the team with 29 goals and is only second on the team in points. Not many captains in the NHL lead their team's statistical categories.

Elite Player

Aside from the fact that Toews is one of the best leaders in the NHL today, his game alone is extremely valuable to this Blackhawks lineup.

He's put into almost all top line situations for the Blackhawks. On the power play, penalty kill, all must-win faceoff situations, and of course as starting center on the first line. The most valuable guy on the team is used in almost every situation.

How do the Chicago Blackhawks replace Toews if he were to be out for and extended period of time with an injury? They don't, they expect more out of every one of their players. But even then that won't be enough to fill the void left by Toews.

Center Situation

Jonathan Toews is one of the best centers to play in the NHL. He just happens to be one of the only centers that wins face-offs on a regular basis for the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Blackhawks already lack a second line center and their third and fourth line centers are questionable. If Toews was to be out how big of a problem will winning face-offs be for the Blackhawks?

Having Toews sit will crack the foundation that is the Blackhawks first and second lines.

This Team is Lost Without Him

The importance of Jonathan Toews should never be underestimated. If the Blackhawks were to lose him for the rest of the season a playoff run might be a lost cause.

The Chicago Blackhawks have a team that can make a deep playoff run, regardless of how they looked as of late. But without Toews that simply won't be possible.
