So here we go again with my latest in Hockey trade rumors—updated February 24 @ 7:00pm
I want to start first with Philly, I believe they will be active at the deadline given the fact that Simon Gagne is gone for the season, Mike Richards gone for three weeks and their drop from a playoff position (not out of the race by any means).
I have heard Jeff Carter's name being tossed out there? Philly has shown interest in Calgary forward Alex Tanguay and Alanta forward Marion Hossa, more developments to come.
Calgary is said to be shopping Alex Tanguay hard, I am hearing a deal that could send Tangauy to Montreal for Micheal Ryder. I personally don't think that is a good deal for Calgary since Ryder is a UFA at the end of the season, and hasn't had a productive season.
But the Flames have aldo inquired about Rangers forward Jaromir Jagr...could Tanguay be a Ranger come Tuesday? We will see.
There have been mentions of Huselius and Langkow since they are both UFA's at the end of this year. There could be a chance that Calgary may move one of those two players, I don't believe they can afford to sign both players.
The Flames have more money tied up in their core players (Iginla/Phanuef/Kippersoff/Regehr) than any other team's core players. They may try to find an affordable contract that will fit into their cap next season, along with some draft picks—who knows what will happen, but I will keep the Calgary updates coming.
The Edmonton Oilers are said to be shopping Rollie the goalie as he has asked for a trade. I think for this deal to work for the Oilers G.M Kevin Lowe, he may have to package Rollie with another player, most likely a defenceman, considering they have lots young talent on the blue line—maybe Steve Staios.
I also believe that G.M Lowe will also be looking to shop D Joni Pitkanen as he is a UFA and I believe won't resign with Edmonton—puck-moving defencemen are highly touted at this time of the year. A rumor that has gained some attention is Brad Richards in an Oilers uniform. I would like to see Richards in an Edmonton jersey, they have the cap space and Richard's is young and has experience. We'll watch this one closely.
Finally there's a lot of talk that Mats Sundin will not waive his NTC, but I believe this is just part of the bidding process to drive Sundin's stock up. GM Cliff Fletcher is trying to get the best possible deal for Sundin, and he will take this right to the last minute of the deadline to insure he gets the most for his captain.
I will try to keep the updates coming and any hot rumor leading up to the deadline.
More to come.
