Bill Fitch had finally made the big time, hired as the first coach and general manager of the expansion Cleveland Cavaliers in 1970.
As it turned out, his first taste of life in the NBA involved being moved to tears through a 15-67 record, and shooting rats after games behind Dumpsters at the old Cleveland Arena with a maintenance man known only as "Big T."
Fitch coached his way up from there -- to nearly 1,000 wins, an NBA title and maybe into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
