Basketball season is in full swing in both the pro and college ranks, but that doesn’t stop NBA teams from worrying about the future. The 2012 draft is just four months away, and while some of the college game’s best are rocketing up draft boards, others are headed in entirely the wrong direction.
One player who’s put himself squarely in the latter category is Baylor standout Perry Jones III. A surefire top-five pick if he’d declared for last year’s draft, as many expected, Jones has shown little improvement as a sophomore, and his Bears have struggled so badly in Big 12 play that even his enormous potential may not raise him above the late lottery.
Jones isn’t the only preseason sensation who hasn’t lived up to expectations, but there’s a steady supply of new stars waiting to take the place of the ones who fall. Have a look at this list of players in both camps, all of them among the leading candidates for this year’s Wooden and Naismith Awards.
