Biting a New Trend in Hockey?

Jack PorterCorrespondent IJanuary 6, 2009

Just 24 hours after writing an article about Joakim Andersson of Sweden biting Thomas Hickey of Canada during a scrum in front of the net in last night's World Junior Championship Final, Jarkko Ruutu of the Ottawa Senators has bitten fellow tough-guy Andrew Peters of the Buffalo Sabres.

The incident occurred while the two were tangled up together along the side boards. Ruutu, who didn't get any penalty on the play (Peters got two for roughing) is known for being a pest, but this is just too far and cannot be tolerated.

Andrew Peters confirmed it himself as he screamed from the bench to the referees, "He f****** bit me."

So, with this the second incident in just as many nights, I'm sitting here praying that this does not become a trend in hockey. Fighting will be the least of the NHL's problems if players are pulling "Mike Tyson" stunts like this.
