MMA, UFC, Brock Lesnar, Kimbo Slice

Maybe I should have titled this one "When Animals Attack: MMA Edition". Two giants among men stepping into the cage against one another might be more of a spectacle than an actual fight. In fact, I would be hard pressed to name two heavyweights that have ever fought in the octagon that have had as much raw power as Slice and Lesnar. With both of these men be fairly new to the organized form of fighting that is mixed martial arts, I wonder, who would come out on top when the dust settles?

Kimbo Slice: what can really be said about Slice that can't be seen in any of the number of backyard bare knuckle fights that are featured all over the Internet? The guy is an animal, plan and simple. Forget precision and finesse.  Slice isn't there to win style points.  He is a man that is looking for the knockout and looking for it quickly, not unlike the once intimidating Tank Abbott (who Slice destroyed in under a minute). His strength and ability to take a hit are off the charts, making him incredibly dangerous on his feet. Though having a strong chin isn't always as important as it may be in boxing, if a fighter isn't able to show intelligent defense, the fight is over, whether he is conscious or not. And, as pointed out numerous times, his biggest flaw is his ground game. Slice isn't the kind of guy that is looking to go to the ground. His is a more antiquated ideal of standing and trading shots and seeing who the last man standing is. And with a coach the likes of Bas Rutten, you can bet that while there is some wrestling and jiu-jitsu being trained, strikes are still the emphasis. But it is anyone's guess as to how the story would end if the fight went to the mat. I would be hard pressed to think of anyone that has the size and strength to be able to keep him there for long... unless of course it is Brock Lesnar.

Brock Lesnar: His name is almost legendary and yet he has spent less than a year as an MMA fighter. From being a national champion wrestler, to a WWE champion, to a defensive lineman with the Minnesota Vikings, Lesnar has shown his physical ability time and again and has stood up to many challenges (including making the mistake of standing up and motionless against Frank Mir). Brock Lesnar symbolizes power. A man that could easily top the scales over 300 pounds has to cut weight to get to the 265 cut off for UFC heavyweights. And this isn't sloppy weight (i.e. Tim Sylvia's jiggly belly), the man is shredded to the bone and incredibly fast for his size, or anyone's size. His shear power easily took down Frank Mir twice and controlled him when both were on the ground. His stand up game is in question, but only because he seems disinterested with standing toe to toe when he knows how superior his take downs are. The question remains, would he be able to keep Kimbo Slice on the ground? It is largely a matter of strength versus strength, but with Lesnar's wrestling abilities thrown in as well, I don't know if anyone is strong enough to stand back up once taken down. Which leaves one last question: can he take Slice down to begin with? All it takes is one shot to turn out the lights and few people have ever dealt with someone the size and strength of Slice.

Prediction: This one wouldn't be pretty, but it would make up for it with intensity. Expect Slice to be looking for the shoot and the opening to put Lesnar out much the same way Chuck Liddell did against Babalu Sobral in their first meeting. If Lesnar can get inside and avoid the heavy hands of Slice, and do it away from the fence, Slice just doesn't have the experience to keep the fight standing. Once on the ground Lesnar's wrestling will control the action and the fight will end either by knockout or ref stoppage.  There is no way Slice would tap out from strikes.

Results: Lesnar wins within 3:00 of the first round from strikes on the ground.

  1. HAHA! Kimbo Slice would knock the fuck right out of Lesnar! No doubt about it! Sorry, but lesnar, isn't made to fight, and Kimbo, is just a born natural at fighting man. Look at the guy, no striking training growing up, knocking out just about everyone on the streets, and undefeated in the cage. Got a problem with this post, e-mail me at the-contender@hotmail.com. Or add me on MSN

    1. Yes, Kimbo has amazing hands and an iron chin; but this isn't a street fight in a miami backyard. This is in the UFC octagon where there is much more than fists. Brock would easily, and I mean EASILY take Kimbo down and GnP the fuck outa him. Your probably thinking well Kimbo will just get up and wouldn't be affected by b.l. 's punches. your wrong, Lesnar was a NCAA Heavyweight Champion Who also one the big ten twice. Kimbo would be brocks little bitch on the ground and brock would keep him there. In the end, If brock hadn't already won, he would just where kimbo down because it's obvious that Brock's cardio is far superior

  2. Not sure why you're talking in absolutes....If this was a toe to toe no grappling street fighting match, then my money is on Kimbo...possibly a different story when MMA rules are applied.

  3. You guys have no idea what your talking about. Lesnar would destroy Kimbo anyway you want to look at it. Standing, grappling, or whatever. Kimbo does not have the speed, power or athletism of Lesnar. The match would not make it through the first round, just as Jon has stated in his column. Kimbo is a tough guy and freakshow people are willing to watch, but is no where near the same class as Lesnar.

  4. Kimbo would destroy lesnar because for lesnars size his punching power is like a 8 year old girl and kimbo would knock him out within 1 min the only way lesnar would have a chance is if he would take kimbo to the ground and even then who knows because when he fought frank mir he was hitting mir with those sissy taps that had no effect what so ever on the fight and and lesnar is to hyper when he is in the ring he needs to calm down otherwise its gonna be a long road ahead of him in the ufc or if he fights kimbo

    1. Lmfao @ you..wow u just showed how stupid u are and how little u know about the fight game..brock has thrice the power of kimbo and would take his head off...he would rip ur head off too...he hits like a girl??? funniest thing i have ever heard u moron

  5. why are we even talking about this? neither of them are MMA fighters. Stunts like this are what will bring the UFC and MMA away from the mainstream again. There is no MMA skill in either of these "fighters". This is a professional sport, and I would much rather watch professional atheletes compete in it. I want to see skill and talent in a fight, not a street fight, in the UFC octagon.

If dana lets this fight happen, this is the beggining of the end for the UFC as a legitamate MMA organizer.

  6. I sat quit talking and start watching...When is Dana setting this fight up? It's the UFC, stfu with that "he's got style" bs. Most of these "professionals" don't even put up a good damn fight. The spinning backfists only work in ballet dancing, not in the Octagon...please show me some skills.

    -JeAH

  7. They HAVE to get these two guys together!! Would be a great attraction no doubt about it.

  8. kimbo slice could and would knock out any man that stepped into any ring with the immense power he has but if he doesnt land the money punch before brock takes him down..........fight over. having seen both of brocks fights, and all of kimbo slices fights including the ones on the street i must say i cant see kimbo stopping the takedown. he would lose on referee stoppage.

  9. Bo Would Destroy!!!!!!!!!

  10. LMFAO!!!! Wow are you all 8 yr old boys???? U know absolutely nothing about the fight game, putting kimbo up against brock lesnar would be like a supreme athelte competing in the special olympics!!! Kimbo would even know this!! He is just a marketting ploy u moron! He has beaten 2 of the worst fighters in the cage and he beat up taxi drivers in his street fights, remember he was beaten by a fat white copper???
Kimbo is a bum, a marketting ploy to make sum big bucks for mma...brock lesnar is actually an ncaa champion etc etc....wow ur stupidity really amazed me lol

  11. SIGH.... what a silly article. Brock Lesnar: 6'3, 285 pounds. Can bench press 475 and squat 695. Kimbo Slice: 6'2, 235. That's pretty much 50 POUNDS OF MUSCLE difference in size. Brock would squash Kimbo like an ant in strength tests yet the person writing this article somehow thinks it would be a close run thing. Kimbo has a much better stand up game than Brock but if you are comparing strength than there is only one winner.

  12. Anyone that says Kimbo, or Brock are not taking this serious, and learning the sport is stupid. These guys come in with raw talent, they are new to the game. Who else could come in and do what they have done in such a short amount of time? There is MMA skill in both these fighters, they are new. Just becasue they didnt have to start in local MMA fights in their home town doesnt mean they aren't legit.
As far as saying Brock hits like an 8 year old.....wow open your eyes.
Brock wins easy on the ground.......which would make it an MMA fight.

  13. well first of all kimbo does have some ground game he has been training with bas who is no stranger to the game and would not let any of his firghters go out there knowing they will lose if it goes to certain aspects of a fight if he feels you cant defend yourself at a certain time(ground) he wont even waste his time training you so obvoisly he sees something in kimbo and second lesners stand up game isnt as bad as it looks he rocked mir in the first rd and cut him open so he has some power on his feet it might be there biggest challenge yet as long as lesner can avoid getting ko he might last cause kimbos cardio isnt the best i would avoid vegas when it came to this fight unless you want to put your life savings down on a coin toss

  15. Who cares! Any legitimate heavyweight in the UFC would win a match with either of these opponents (see Frank Mir). Would even like light heavy "Rampage" Jackson against either opponent. Who cares who wins a match between two minor league whatever you want to call them.

  16. kimbo only fought pudgy bums before his mixed martial arts debut. brock lesnar will rape him up the corn hole.

  17. kimbo has no ground skills just asked what one the greatest fighters of all time Chuck Liddell Felt about Kimbo and Lesnar is so much stronger he would kick his Nigger Ass

  18. kimbo has no ground skills just asked what one the greatest fighters of all time Chuck Liddell Felt about Kimbo and Lesnar is so much stronger he would kick his Nigger Ass

  20. Interesting match-up but I don't see this being much of a fight. Although I am sure Kimbo has been training in all aspects of MMA the guy has zero wrestling experience. Lesnar, with his stellar wrestling pedigree would be able to take Kimbo down at will. As of yet, Kimbo has not been tested by any legitimate fighter and from looks alone, seems to be a one dimensional fighter. Lesnar on the other hand overwhelmed Frank Mir (although losing) in only his second MMA match. This one would end in a TKO, round one.

  21. Just another fight another win for Kimbo. About 40 seconds and an uppercut. Game Over

  22. CMON YOU GUYS, THIS ISNT A FAIR FIGHT. ITS LIKE PUTTING ADAM SANDLER AGAINST FLOYD MAYWEATHER. BROCK WOULD SWEEP THE FLOOR WITH KIMBO. THEY'D HAVE TO TELL BROCK TO FIGHT WITH ONE HAND TO EVEN IT OUT A BIT.

  23. Once again, I agree with Mr. Grilz!!!! There's no doubting Kimbos' punching and power but that wouldn't much matter in this case!

Lesnars' reach and power would present problems for Slice trying to land the big blow. Couple that with Lesnars' size, strenght, and wrestling ability and Slice is in for big trouble!

Lesnar would certainly be able to get Kimbo down before too long, and that means a ground and pound victory for Lesnar!!!!
