LAKELAND, Fla. -- Prince Fielder said he never got to hit on the fields here when he was a kid and his father, Cecil, was a Tiger. Now he knows how it feels.

It can't possibly match the feeling the Tigers are getting about having him here.

Miguel Cabrera, the batting champion set to hit in front of Fielder, already was getting excited during their first session of batting practice Monday morning. As Fielder sent one shot after another out to right field and into the trees behind the Tigertown complex, breaking off a branch with one of his blasts, Cabrera was yelling like a fan at a home run derby.
