Graham Hill the only person to complete the :
BLUE RIBAND TREBLE : The World Championship, the Indy 500 and the Le Mans
He was World Champion form 1962-1968.
He retired in 1975
The Blue Riband was later changed to the Blue Ribbon award.
Now we know where Lewis Hamilton's inspiration came from.
When Giuseppe Farina's won with his Alfa Romeo at Silverstone on May 13, 1950 he would never ever thought that a young man born July 1, 1985 in a place called Tewin would make equal history 58 years later by becoming the youngest and darkest of them all would make headlines like never before.
When Stirling Moss won the British Grand Prix in Antree England in 1955 it never cross his mind that a young, 23-year-old dark-skinned second-year rookie will be the world champion 53 years later. Moss won so many races and the runners up to the World Champions but was always denied the World Championship as he crashed out in Goodwood as he passed Hill and crashed his Lotus.
In 1965 New Years Day East London South Africa Jim Clark wins the Grand Prix and Nelson Mandela already one-year in jail and Lewis Hamilton not even born yet.
Jim Clark would never ever in his wildest imagination or dreams realized that a young thin colored chappie would come along 43 years later, smashed most of the titles and records and re writes the history books, and Nelson Mandela became President of South Africa.
1976 The Japanese Grand Prix at Fuji James Hunt in extremely terrible weather conditions at the start had to come third to gain enough points to win the World Championship followed by Niki Lauda and Jody Scheckter. Nelson Mandela was then already 12 years in jail.
When Lewis Hamilton met Mr. Mandela who by then was 12-13 years out of jail both of them did not now that 2008 the weather would caused also problems in order for Lewis to win the the World Championships.
1996 Damon Hill won the world Championship while Lewis Hamilton was only 11 years old and never ever did both of them new that one day somebody will write articles about them and comparing their achievements.
Bruce McLaren who had four Grand Prix wins, who won at Sebring to become the youngest-ever GP winner at 22 years and 104 days old, never, ever, ever, new that one day a Dark Skinnned young man will be the World Champion at 23 years old.
Stirling Moss born Sept. 17, 1929 London England had 16 victories but never managed to win the World Title but was never the less acclaimed as one of the greatest of his generation.
2008 Brazilllllllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeee LEWIS MASTER MIGHTY HAMILTON AND YOUNGEST DARKEST DRIVER EVER IN FORMULA 1 became the NEW UNDISPUTED CHAMPION OF THE WORLD.
HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY LEWIS FOR JAN. 7. YOU ARE THE MASTER AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU FOR YEARS AND YEARS TO COME.
And for all who read this Formula 1 is now officially a Multi-Colored Sport and may it go from strength to strength.

Nice touch there... but what has Chris Hoy got to do with it?

You've lost me here Laurel. What 'does' Chris Hoy have to do with this?
(There will never be equality until the downtrodden in Asia and Islam have a Champion to celebrate.)
Edit Comment Cancel
Paul 5 months ago
Not sure the people of Asia are downtrodden, last time I looked they own most of the world in one way or another. As for islam, well that is not a race or nationality rather a faith and has no place in any sports. We have enough problems with race, thanks to Laurel, without a further divide by adding a drivers faith into the mix.

Islam as an example of a 'group' not represented in F1 yet.

The so-called "Islam" of the Mudbala group in Ferrari, Bahrain's Mumtalakat Holding Company, and Saudi investor, Mansour Ojjeh's stake in McLaren cannot be ruled out

And the stake of the Saudi Royal family in Citibank Venture Capitals...Islamic countries or groups are well represented...

:-) but of course, I was trying to pull a fast one...
There is talk that there will be a driver from Bahrain in one of the test seats shortly and will make his F1 debut as number 2 man in one of the teams by 2011...

The only reason that there is not a muslim in F1 is because there is not one good enough, you can take that to the bank. If there was one, money would be there in abundance to make it happen, same goes for a driver from China

Why keep mentioning his colour its totally irrelevant.

Laurel Andrews 6 months ago
It will be in 5 years time hopefully there will be more of his color.
Bear in mind Leeds soccer team had a black South African as captain Lucas Radeba back then it was the greatest ho-ha.
Today nobody even bother we have the whole of Africa playing in England.

Chris Hoy and Lewis has both received awards from the Queen one for the Gold Medal at the Olympics and Lewis for F1 the World Championship, and track cycling just happens to be the second sport i enjoy being involve with.
I was very hesitant about the last part of the equality but then again F1 are sort of fully Internationally packed with drivers as most competing countries have a driver representing either a nation or a race.
But it will always be difficult to have a fully representative sport who ever thought that Jamaca will have such a full force athletics team in the last Olympics and China will put up such a spectacular opening as we tend to label certain achievements with certain countries and certain races.
And when it comes to labeling certain sports people with certain sports nobody can beat us.We said there must be equal representation in our rugby but we have a soccer team with 10 black players and one white player.

What does Hoy and Colour have to do with Lewis Hamilton, or infact anything on this page?

Christopher Frankland 6 months ago
Agreed, Laurel you really need to stop bringing colour into your articles. If you left it removing all the words relating to colour, I'm sure you would definatly get some more pick-of-the-days.
I don't want to go down digging up old ground, and I know your proud of your heritage. I am too, (Half Jewish) but I don't go around shouting to the world about the latest Jewish Racer (not that I know of any!)
Its admirable you feel so deeply about it, but this is an online newspaper, it needs to appeal to more people, and it feels like your alienating some people.
Nice article all the same, you just need to make some adjustments!

Laurel - Firstly nice article and if I were you I stop listening to these hating morons who are on this site. Everyone has a valid opinion and if it's not the one that matches theirs, they starts hating you, a few years ago my mate Andy wrote a column about Jody Sheckter and was sent nothing but abusive e-mails he dosn't write on this site anymore. But just for you to know - keep your chin up, you should express your opinion like everyone else and dont let any of them stop you.

Gary i agree with you i was gonna stop writing to Bleacher after the last saga when i was called a Racist Pig but just decided people are entitled to their opinions so i just carry on with the articles because its not my fault that Lewis Hamilton is not white and its not just me alone shouting color, black, colored ect what Lewis and his family went through in Brazil was so shocking and that was being racist to the extreme but not one article appeared on Bleacher about (not what i know off) it.
I know its hard for people to accept this color story but we had it in all the sports since the 2nd world war days boxing just one example.

Gary thanks i think we are so occupied in our own worlds that when people like me comes along we get a wake up call and start to react on things that was actually happening in our back yard but because it never bothered us we just kept quite.
I come from a past were for 40 years my parents and grand parents accepted what happens on a daily basis for year in and year out.
Then a man like Nelson Mandela comes along and say wait a minute something is wrong and bang he goes to jail for 27 years everybody accepted it for years and people like myself came along in 1976 and it took a lot of sacrifices and life's but today we free, and with freedom comes new problems and that is just how life is

Laurel, it was me that called you the name and the context of it was used as one would use sexist pig (a common phrase in the states). However to please the masses, I dropped the word pig, however the statement that you are a racists, still stands.
Edit Comment Cancel
Paul 5 months ago
Gary, your comment is at best biased and uninformed. The hater here is Laurel, he is the racists, he is the one making color an issue. He is the ONLY one who carries on about Hamilton's color. Last time I checked, his color does not make him go faster and clearly he has led a charmed life. As for Jody, I cannot imagine why any one would be sending abusive emails over such a class act. So I can only think that the article was writing to incite, much the way that laurel does.

Christopher you have to shout and scream when people of your Nationality or color win in any sport never mind the World Championship for Formula 1 a sport that took 58 years to produce a Word Champion so how can you expect a person that comes from a background like myself just to say okay Lewis is the World Champion now lets live happily ever after.
Christopher
No my friend even going back into your background and past, just sit still and think, or speak to your dad or grand dad, about the Jewish heritage and past and it should bring tears into your eyes as it was horrible and only the people that experience it will really know, when you have to fight for your life because you not living in a free world.
To day you have on line newspapers like Bleacher where you sing the praises you want to sing let the world know, because if you don't do it nobody will.
Just imagine a Jewish,Indian,Moslem,German,Pakistani,English,American, drivers occupying the front of the grid for a race in Sepang Malaysia.

Laurel, you said "Jewish,Indian,Moslem,German,Pakistani,English,American"
why do you mix races, faiths and nationalities into one pot. Do you know the difference. What does ones faith have to do with racing, a Jew, muslim, Hindo it makes no difference when it comes to racing. One can be an American, Jew, muslim, Christian or agnostic. As for English, there was last time I looked only one Englishman and that was Jenson on the grid, one Scotsman (DC) and three Brits, Jenson, Hamilton and DC. In your effort to further your agenda, you play with the truth, ignore facts and seek to divide.

Paul 5 months ago
Said it before and will say it again, you are a racists . Every article you write has a racial agenda, if there was no Hamilton, you would never bother with this site.
So this time I did not resort to calling you a name, I was wrong in doing that. However it does not change the fact that you are a racists and the reason that others have stopped being involved in B/R. You hide behind a PC cloak to further your racists agenda. The disharmony that you sew causes problems that destroys relationships, shame on you!

Paul, the problem is that it should never come to people leaving because of someone's racist agenda of throwing race in the face at the drop of a hat...

Sarah, we have ONE member who write more about race than all of the other members combined. If one speaks against this person, they are labeled a racist, just because the person in question is black. For my part, I find this disgusting, that the one playing the race card, is doing it to further his own agenda while others are forced to endure. It is interesting that the person in question, cannot mention Hamilton without making a point about his race. The fact that he is the first British driver to win for a very long time seems to be of no concern for the guy. While Hamilton is clearly British (not English) the home of F1, should be a huge issue, yet I do not hear one of his ardent fans pratting on the way this guy does and they surely have a lot to be proud of.

I think there's plenty of room for racial discussion in sports.
Wouldn't we love for it not to be an issue but...it is not to be.
Edit Comment Cancel
Paul 5 months ago
No one has a problem with racial discussions, what is the problem is the racial agenda, two very different things. The fact that Hamilton is in F1 for a top team speaks volumes. The fact is that F1 is a real multicultural event, it is a non issue.
F1 has people from all cultures and faiths, it is a real melting pot.Now if you want to talk about women in F1 or blacks in NASCAR, that is a subject worth talking about.

Think I am anti Clan Bleacher Report, you cannot all be posting as one, that would make one mindless. When you take many of the best writers and then post a comment, it is as though all of those members are making that comment. Whomever is making the comments, should be making them in their name, otherwise the comment is invalid. This is not an attack on any one of the Clan Bleacher Report members, rather the way your comments are posted. Step up to the plate and name names.

Again you taking me to serious and by the way you left the pig out of the racist part.
Clan Bleacher Report you hit it on the nails we tend to keep quite when it don't affects us
It only took 58 years for a black person to be in front of the grid which people still cant believe today, so when my church theory becomes a reality we will most probably have to change the starting rules
