5 Fastest Players in the English Premier League

Michael Cummings@MikeCummings37World Football Lead WriterFebruary 17, 2012

Strange as it might sound, picking a list of the English Premier League’s five fastest players was a highly subjective process.

Don’t believe it? Just ask the Daily Mail.

In 2008, the British tabloid was clocking the league’s fastest men at just under 21 mph. Three years later, several were well over 22. (Oh, and Mario Balotelli? Really?)

Also in 2008, Nike put out a series of commercials that aimed to answer the question, “Who is the fastest?” The results were interesting.

But even with all the stats and numbers and quantifiable data in the world, you’ll never convince a Spurs fan that Theo Walcott is faster than Gareth Bale. And good luck finding an Arsenal fan who would say otherwise.

What does it mean? Well, basically it means that this list is both subjective and objective. There are plenty of speed tests out there, but few of them agree. Likewise, every fan has an opinion, but when have fans ever agreed on anything?

So, then. What do you think? Are we right? Are we wrong? Have we lost our minds?

Tell us all about it in the comments.
